Does anyone feel like CFB is one giant pressure cooker with NIL now?

17-22 year olds getting paid millions, donors, programs, and fans expecting returns on investments, and both coaches and players pressing because of this and everything else that's on the line.

The last dominant team to that seemed to play freely was Georgia a few years ago when NIL was still trying to find its footing.

If I or most of my friends had millions or even 6 figures in college, good luck. No way I'd be able to handle it. Just saying.

I don't think the big donors are going to keep pumping money in like they're currently doing. There's really not much ROI. Probably good news for Oregon

I think you're underestimating the willingness for people with ungodly amounts of money to spend it on their favorite hobby while gaining community goodwill

They wanted it, they got it. Suck it up and grow up. They are employees now.

Donors are spending the same amount of money now, it’s just not going into facilities or back room deals. MAYBE some players are feeling it, but the pressure was always there, maybe more because if they were poor this was their only out.

I don't disagree, and that's part of my point. Regardless of how much you tell someone to suck it up and grow up, they're still teenagers and 20-22 year olds at the end of the day who are largely on the field for their athletic abilities.

i dont get yalls deal with this. They have always been getting paid. The only difference now is that its legal. The pressure cooker is the transfer portal. The whole thing needs to be regulated from top to bottom.

Didn't they just close one of the portal open period windows?

A few players getting paid $40k under the table is so much different than the starting 22 getting paid $200k - $10 mil+ publicly.

This too.

NIL isn't the problem...the portal combined with NIL is without contracts is.

Additionally, the CFB landscape hasn't fully adjusted to all of the blue/new bloods being concentrated in 2 conferences, which means more losses to go around to teams with high expectations

I'd throw conference realignment into the pressure cooker, too.

Schools used to contending for championships in former conferences year in and year out have not had the fanbases re-calibrate yet.

I’d say this for ALL fan bases. NIL, plus open unlimited transfers, larger conference and fans still expect teams to go 12-0/11-1.

Yes, snd this is why you see such wild swings in team performance from week to week. The days of the clearly dominant team are over.

There are no more dominant teams like that because the talent is more spread out. Instead of Georgia having a 2 deep DL in which any of them could literally start for any other team in the country, those guys are now actually starting for other teams instead of coming off the bench at Georgia.

That much money dropped on most people would make it hard to maintain normalcy, much less a kid trying to pursue a tough sport (on top of whatever academics still exist).

Even just the access to things it gives. Need to practice and study, but hey let’s go to the mall and blow $5000 on shoes and clothes every other day.

This right here probably has a lot to do with with why Nuss is still on the field and Kelly refuses to take him out unless God forbid he’s taken out on a stretcher.

They knew that going in. None of those guys were expecting a ROI on anything other than their happiness and entertainment. They are simply paying for happiness and entertainment and additionally some connections and "pull" withing the government/community.

They are professional athletes now. They should be under pressure because it’s all about winning now. There’s flag football if you want to play for fun.
