trying to instrall a keypad lock bolt.

But the set screws are capped and I can;t get them out. You can see how I scrpaed the one on the left trying. Anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas ? I guess I'm a have to get a metal drill bit and keep going till I rip it apart.

Why in the world would you do this on the interior side of the house?

UPDATE:

Once it became clear they were just plugs over the screws, and not some weird or sealed tight deal, I just hammered the shite out of em out with a small flat head.
Once the covers popped out the screw heads were exposed and unscrewed like normal.

See if you can get some dental floss in this and pop them out.

The caps are a bad design b/c they are made essentially as a gear w/soft brass so naturally they get deformed. Always thought they should be plastic.

ETA: eye glasses screwdriver kits work well too.

What does the outside of the lock look like?
Did they put it in backwards to begin with?
Is there any small opening on the bottom of that collar that you can slip a flat head screwdriver in to pop off the collar?

Drill a small hole in center. Then drive a screw in hole. Screw should push the caps off. Or just drill big enough hole to back out existing screws. Either way, those caps are fucced

I'd try a small pick or awl as well as a mini, jeweler's-type screwdriver.

I would try prying with different tools before drilling. Find something you can wedge in there and tap with a hammer. Looks like the one you’ve been working on has been pulled out a bit. Try to were something in there ant tap down (where glasses protect them eyes).

I just looked this up and plenty of people running into the same problem. Someone suggested a magnet which I found interesting.

Yeah good questions but no. It;s normal install outside. No way to take it out. no opening on the collar.

maybe try some corrosion spray and see if that helps break them free. Or some kroil. Stuck soft brass is a PIA

since you are putting a new lock on anyway, start a sheet metal screw into plug then pull it out with some pliers

Call a locksmith. I had those years ago and it seems like a plate that spins to expose the screws in there? Sorry not more help bc it’s been so long since I changed them but I remember the locksmith telling me how to do it. Had them on pool gates and they’re made so they can’t be unscrewed by a random person with a screwdriver. There is def a technique to do it though.

I’d guess those are covers for the screw holes, pry them out.

Heat might help, blow torch, or even a hair drier

the brass is just a cap. You need to pry it off by the door to expose the screws. or look under the lock and see if it has a hole that you pur a small screwdriver in to pop it off

nuke the whole thing from space

and shlage are good people give them a call & explain the situation and they may very well send you a whole new lockset for free.

i'm sure you're not the only one with the issue.

Put a flat head on the cap and hammer it into the brass. See if you can turn/torque it out that way.

These hook and pick sets are really cheap, you should have two sets at least.

Installed a new locking door knob on my daughters door at a rental house she lives in and it’s designed with the screws on the opposite side from the lock. Didn’t make much sense.
