Almost ready to go over to the dark side of TVs.

For several years I have been a vocal opponent of Chinese TV makers TCL and Hisense simply because they are owned by the CCP. That and some reliability issues.
I have long been a Sony boy with a couple of LGs thrown in.
However, Sony is just not keeping up and pricing is even higher than ever. The new TCL QM8K and even newer QM9K in 98 inches are very tempting.
Will watch the Black Friday prices from TCL closely. My fantastic Sony A80J 77” OLED would migrate to my bedroom.
Any of you guys have either of the new TCLs? size?

TCLs are fine. Owned several. I don't chase $3k TVs though, which if you're a Sony fan, tells me you do. Cause everyone that's at >.12 BAC when you watch us in the Independence Bowl will totally notice the better quality.

I’ve used generic TVs my whole life and I have no desire to look at or read about “nice” ones because I can’t tell the difference now and I don’t want to be able to tell the difference.

I buy the cheaper tv's and upgrade more often, cycling them through kids and bedrooms. The improvement has been massive and it is still cheaper than buying the best from Sony or whoever. We have mostly Hisense google/android TV's right now and I am more than happy with them. Right now we have a couple year old Hisense 85" in the main room which does great with the brighter viewing. In a dark room, I am sure a Sony would look better, but 4X the cost better????
Honestly, if you don't see them side by side it is hard for most people to tell the difference between two TV's, assuming both have the appropriate settings.

until hisense can get details right in Dolby Vision, I'm sticking with Sony TVs. The quality difference is worth it and Sony has very good sales regularly. My 85" X90L was only $1500 and the color & DV accuracy blows away the TCL/Hisense alternatives.

I don't chase $3k TVs though,
the tech trickles down much like paying $899 for a new iPhone vs a 2 year old Oneplus you can pick up on swappa for $150
my wife has a newish iphone and she still asks me to take pics of important things b/c the camera array on the oneplus is insane. pics and videos look fantastic.
so back to tvs, i am old and my eyes aren't the best anymore so chasing the latest micro-pixel-array-dimming-megahertz-8k does nothing for me. i stand in front of those for a few minutes and see nothing that makes me want to whip out my credit card and spend $3k vs $500.

I have four TCLs, including one 65" which has been on my patio for more than five years. Never a problem with any.

Every TV in my house is a TCL Roku TV except my main TV which is Sony.

I’m 75 and might be looking at my last TV or close to it. I want at least a 98” … just because. But Sony doesn’t offer one, or at least a good one close to it for under $7K which is a non-starter.
I have always had a very good TV (OLED or plasma) and paid an average of about $3K to $3.5K. But I’m over that because TCL, etc. are vastly improving and making prices a major issue.
The TCL QM8 or QM9 may meet my needs/wants.

To be fair the wall it's going to be mounted on is probably a good 25 feet away from the headboard.

Just build a lift to bring a normal sized tv out of the floor at the foot of the bed. Goddamn, that's OT living if your wall is 25' away from your headboard. : I was in 5200sq ft and mine was closer!

"For a 4K TV viewed from 25 feet away, a screen size of around 85 to 100 inches is generally considered reasonable."

How about Samsung? I've got several, and they've been great for the money.

I stick with Samsung, just got a 65" Qn S90F OLED been a great TV and chipset is fast. Loads up and navigates quickly and has a great picture. Would recommend, on sale too for 1697.00 which is much better price than I paid for it

Costco had a 100" QLED Hisense on sale yesterday for less than $1,000. QLED is older technology now, but I am guessing the only way reason these TVs are so cheap is because of the CCP taking a loss (or using free labor) so they can try and push others out of the market.

I got the TCL QM6K 98" from Costco a few weeks ago, it's unreal. Replaced a 5 year old 75" Sony and there is a huge difference, mainly the brightness with the mini LED. It looked ridiculous in my living room for a couple of days, we've gotten used to it now and no way could I go back to anything smaller. It's certainly a conversation piece when folks come over
