Looking at purchasing a newer GMC Acadia. 23-24 model year. Does anyone have any advice on these models. Comparing it against a Honda Pilot, which is a bit more money, but solid. The newer Pilot looks a bit smaller interior wise.

If you keep a vehicle past the warranty the Pilot is going to be the better purchase. My wife is in her third in 12 years. We have put 400K combined miles in the 3 with no real problems.

2023 GMC Acadias were built on the smaller, Cadillac platform. Same vintage Buick Enclave or Chevy Traverse were built on the larger platform.

For 2024, Chevy, Buick, & GMC share essentially the same platform, just different sheet metal & interior…

I am pretty sure if you compare it to a 4th gen Pilot the Pilot will have more interior space and I dount it is even close.

ETA since I got an immediate DV I wondered if I was wrong so I checked:

All numbers are cubic feet

Total interior volume: Pilot 158.4 Acadia 143.8

Behind 3rd row P 18.6 A 12.8

3rd row seats down P 48.5 A 41.7

2nd and 3rd row seats down P 87.0 A 79.0

Had a 2017 model that had a sunroof leak and fried the electronics. Luckily the insurance company eventually totaled it.

Imma hijack this thread for a sec to say I like the look of the new Honda Passport Trailsport, which is based on the Pilot and has same powertrain and wheelbase, just a few inches shorter.

Carry on.

I knew a guy who had one and it stayed in the shop about 25% of the time. Bad transmission problems as I recall.

Thanks for all the comments. Will probably just pay more and go the Pilot route.

I don’t know why people don’t just buy minivans. All these SUVs are just less useful minivans.

If you want the thing to work, go with the Honda. There's a reason they are more expensive.

Get a CX5

I had a Terrain, close cousin, and started giving problems at 80k miles. Never buying GM again

After my second Dodge Ram died at 200k+ miles, it was time to downsize. I am 6'7" and have to try on cars. Not only for legroom, but to see if my head hits the ceiling and lets me comfortably see out the front. The Acadia was the only car that actually fits me comfortably. I was skeptical about the smaller engine, laughed at its 'turbo' moniker, but the power it has surprised me. More than once, my wife has fussed about me 'peeling out' for quick entries into traffic.. The rearmost seats are almost useless for adults, but four people can ride comfortably. Fuel economy - coming from a pickup - is what dreams are made of. From just below a quarter tank, a fillup is $35.

Dislikes - the push button transmisson! I keep reaching for the shift lever that's not there.. As for long term service, I bought it at 17K and am just reaching 24K, so no long track record there. But for the moment I am quite happy.

Does the Acadia still have the battery under the passenger floor?

Bruh,

Get the pilot. Their v6 still uses a timing belt so you'll have to change that at 7 years or 100k...

It also is nice to drive and fells.pretty sporty for an SUV

Friend had an Acadia and it was in the shop all the time. Transmission issues. She traded it in before it was a year old. I’d beware.
