Residents in Dearborn, Michigan, have filed complaints against nearly 20 mosques for broadcasting the Islamic call to prayer via outdoor loudspeakers at 5:30 in the morning.
The residents say it violates the city's noise ordinance prohibiting amplified sounds from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Police have conducted decibel tests at complaint sites but issued no citations.
Mayor Abdullah Hammoud emphasizes unity and dialogue, claiming that the call to prayers has been allowed in Dearborn since 2004 and should remain so.
