Remember that time we attempted a 59 yard FG with Damien Ramos?

One aspect of Brian Kelly's tenure that is indefensible even by his biggest supporters is his neglect of STs. He clearly had no idea what that dudes limit was.

We already know. Between 45 and 50. You get him to 50 and calling it a coin flip is generous. That 59 yard didn't even make the endzone.

59 minus the 10 he fell short. 49 is about his max trustworthy range.

He made a 52 yarder with plenty of room to spare against Clemson and this one was about 12 yards short, it was odd. I think he can hit a 59 yarder if he strikes it just right, but that kick was just a disaster off the foot.

Our special teams is undeniably better this season. It was just a dumb idea to have Ramos kick that field goal.

It almost seems like Kelly has some kinda hatred towards Burrell at this point because he just continues to refuse to let Burrell try those long FGs knowing he has the leg for it while also knowing Ramos is absolute dog shite from that distance but he still keeps trotting Ramos out there for some reason.

By golly, it was a chance at extra tackling practice for our field goal unit, I tells ya!

He did. But how much do you trust him to give him that chance in a big game vs just letting Chadwick boom a punt and pin the opponent and let the defense go back to work? Hes a shaky bet for me.

Ramos comparatively limited range is a point of frustration for me. He's fine. Generally reliable within his limits. But if you look around even just the SEC you've got a lot of kickers who are comfortable from 50+ and routinely hitting them. It could make a difference in a big game if you can snag 3 points from 50+ if a drive stalls. I remember the one in the Ole Miss game last year. Dude nailed a 57 yarder to go up on us in OT.

Agreed. We know Ramos isn't a distance guy. But how about we rep a situation where we want to steal some points at half and feel comfortable trying to boom one as the clock expires. You're right, why not let Burrell take that game rep and see if maybe that's something you can put in your pocket for down the road.

And maybe that's what they were going for with Ramos. Just see in a blowout game what the limit is. As someone said the 52 yarder at Clemson had some extra range behind it. Maybe they wanted to see how far he could accurately stretch one, even if he came up short. But I feel like we already knew.

This was the game to do it. They probably see him making similar kicks in practice and wanted to see if he could do it in a game. This will help the coaches decision in a more crucial spot.

Absofrickinglutely. I watched him kick a 60 yarder in warmups. He can make it. The laws of physics and Ramos physical limitations made that kick a 0% probability. I halfway expected Ramos to take the snap and pooch punt it

The defense offsets this deficiency. Instead of kicking long FGs, LSU will pin offenses with a good punt and a monster D.

How? It was a legitimate question. Ramos trying a 59-yarder was asinine. Unless BK wanted to practice defending a missed FG return
