ANGOLA, La. (WAFB) - Nineteen people detained at the Louisiana ICE Processing Center in Camp J at the Louisiana State Penitentiary have entered the fourth day of a hunger strike, according to a press release from the Southeast Dignity Not Detention Coalition (SEDND) and the National Immigration Project (NIPNLG). The groups stated that the detainees are requesting medical and mental health care, access to prescription medications, and basic necessities, including toilet paper, hygiene products, and clean water. They are also seeking visitation from ICE officers to address concerns about conditions inside the facility. RELATED: Look inside ‘Louisiana Lockup’ for ICE detainees at Angola According to the release, detainees were recently moved into Camp J, a unit shut down in 2018, and advocates say the facility lacks essential services, including a law library and religious programming. Some detainees with chronic health conditions are reportedly not receiving medications. The organizations said the Angola facility was reopened earlier in the month as part of an expansion of immigrant detention in Louisiana. They are calling for immediate action to address the hunger strikers’ demands, the release of those detained at Camp J, and increased transparency about the facility’s operations. I've never understood the point of these.

You can lead a detainee to bologna but you can't make him eat.

Who cares?

No one is acting against them to harm them- they're hurting themselves.

That caught my eye too... they aren't staying, right? They're being processed to GTFO. Right?!
