Dumars Talks Pelicans @ GNO QB Club

Notes:
- Emphasizes culture and environment in the building. Was his number 1 priority when walking into the building.
- Poured a ton of effort into the culture, environment, and accountability.
- One of the things he asked the players and coaches when he got here was "Do you know what the definition of insanity is? and he said yea we're going to stop that. We're not going to do things over and over and expect a different result."
-One of the things he tends to stress a lot with players and coaches is that it's hard to compete against other NBA teams if you're not all in. so he asked each and every player if they wanted to be here or not. If you're unhappy here and if you don't want to be here in New Orleans, let me know because we can't win if you're not all in. If you don't want to be here, I'll get on the phone and I'll find a trade and I'll make it happen for ya.
- Said we can't win against another great team unless you think you are supposed to win. We are pouring everything into changing the mentality, changing culture, and changing environment.
-On team building: Indirectly talks about Zion been an incredible talent and a generational talent whose been hurt and had all kinds of issues. Told Mrs. Benson it is hard as heck to build a great team, and you solely depend on one guy. You can't do that because that guy has to be healthy for 82 games and never miss a game, and you know that's not going to happen.
We're going to be deep, I want 10-11/12 deep and if that generational talent isn't there for two weeks, we still win. You can't build a team where you're dependent on one guy. The #1 thing is to be so deep that he doesn't care who misses games, and we'll still be expected to win. and that's the approach.

Thought this was Griff's specialty. Guess he really sucked at it.

i like his talking points and unlike griff, i find dumars to be more authentic.

And this is why adding Fears/ Queen was a great move IMO.
The goal this year is to be competitive, Dumars traded our pick expecting us to be out of the lottery. We doubled down by adding solid depth like Looney/ Bey. If something happens to Z then we can get future picks back and just move on but if it works out then we are in a hell of a position for the future.
In 3 years we will have Fears/ Herb/ Trey/ Queen/ Missi costing a combined $70mil. If Fears/ Queen are hits and Missi continues to improve then there's not a single NBA team close to that value for only 70mil. And that's regardless of our 3 players with all star capabilities and +100mil cap space for improvement if things go south.
We increased our ceiling and our floor.

Griff doesn't have the personality to do that by himself. Every team needs either a hard-nosed coach who can enforce discipline, or a player who will do it.
Zion doesn't hold himself accountable, so he can't hold others to that. BI wasn't a vocal person. And Willie is too soft-spoken. Griff really needed SVG or a similar kind of coach, which is why he wanted to fire Willie last season.
Gayle decided to go a different direction and get the kind of GM who has the personality to do that himself, which is why she hired Dumars without so much as shopping around.

He sounds like another mouthpiece like griff. I’m tired of hearing about the intangible stuff, I wanna hear what kind of team you want to build.
What skillsets are you looking for in your players? Don’t tell me toughness or grit or some shite like that.
What kind of offense do you want this team to run?
How do you expect to generate 3s on this team with a glaring lack of shooters on the roster?
I want to hear an actual vision, not just “we need to hold ourselves accountable” or “we want to be tough”

Same exact shite Griff said. I hate these BS cliches and platitudes. Talk about substance. At least Griff also got the old lady to spend on upgrading the practice facilities.

It’s put up or shut up Dumars. The franchises of Gayle are in disarray and the Saints org just allowed 2/3 of the Dome to be taken over by 49er fans last week because she used brokers to cover non renewals.
Same will happen for the Pels. Words alone can’t fix a lost owner and a dying city.

I'm at a point where I just don't care about them anymore. I'm not following them.

I'm more concerned about our future to still be here.

I definitely agree with his culture comments, it has to change
And his first move should have been firing the coach
Beyond that, this first draft under his watch was brutal

Yeah drafting a guy that every team and media in the NBA liked at #7 was super rough. And then drafting a guy at #13 that was a projected top 10 pick in many mocks was also just terrible.
Its just so brutal drafting (2) lottery picks.
Y'all are pathetic. We have had drafts where we took Jaxon Hayes, Kira, and Hawkins in the lotto and now we drafted 2 guys with more upside than any of those guys combined but that's brutal?

But imo it starts with the coach being able to answer these questions, and we all know Willie can’t, which is the most depressing part.
We should have an elite x’s and o’s coach if we were going to go with this Dumars model. We can’t have everybody in the building be a relationship builder. Somebody has to be a tactician.

Shows you how far south things have gone for the Saints as now Dumars is speaking at a QB club .

They definitely do not want to answer how 30,000 49er fans took over the Dome. Gayle sold her franchise season ticket holders out by raising prices on the loyal fans and selling 10,000 packages to the brokers at a 50% discount. The loyal fans forced to sit next to visiting fans is another slap in the face and a reminder of a failed city.
She’ll likely do the same with the Pels.

That's not a fair comparison... We already had (1) lottery pick. In none of those scenarios did we add an additional lottery pick. So no, not in all fairness and not even a comparison. We have fans legit upset that we are adding 2 lottery pick players. I don't even know what to say to that. Would they rather us be a bad team and end up with 0 lottery picks? Its just bitching to bitch.
I understand people don't like the cost of the extra pick but the reality is that having 2 lottery players is also a very good thing and should bring excitement. So in all fairness, anyone that isn't capable of separating their emotions from the cost vs the reward are giant pussies. You can both be hesitant on the cost but joyful about the opportunity the picks bring.
To call a draft where you add (2) top 14 players in the entire class "brutal" because you are worried where an unknown draft pick lands is fricking ridiculous. That's not in any way being "fair".
Its hard to reason with people that are incapable of even acknowledging a positive thing.
We don't even know if the trade itself will end up being good or bad and yet the comment was directed to the draft. The draft where we added 2 top players. So no, that's just fricking dumb.

You've hitched your wagon to this trade being a positive thing so much, that if Queen isn't a perennial all-pro, you're gonna be ridiculed forever over it.
We got one good young prospect, and one prospect that no one had a lottery grade but us. And big that cant defend or shoot, and we traded an unprotected first for him. In a year where we could easily be drafting top 5. So yes, the value was terrible, but you already know this. You'd just keep beating this dead horse and defending Dumars. It's honestly weird at this point, but like I said, you'll get to either backtrack or gloat for years, depending on how Queen turns out and what we end up giving up next year for him.

See you are wrong because as of now the trade is ONLY a positive... Until we go through the season and see where the pick lands there's absolutely no reason to be negative. The only facts are that we currently have (2) lottery picks, a healthy Zion, and a really good bench. That should excite people and not make them pessimistic.
quote:If you exclude Fears then Queen as of right now is probably the best prospect we've drafted outside of Dyson/ Zion/ Trey in the last 10 years. Herb isn't on the list because he was not a high rated prospect and still struggled early.
that if Queen isn't a perennial all-pro, you're gonna be ridiculed forever over it.
Do you really think I am worried about getting ridiculed? Here's a list of things I've been ridiculed to death for:
Saying BI will shoot more 3's.
Saying BI will get paid over 35mil.
Saying Dyson will be a stud.
Saying Hawk is a bust.
Not wanting to give CJ an extension.
Saying CJ had a bad game when he shot 2-16.
Saying Jose is meaningless in the grand scheme.
Want to tell me which one of those things I was ridiculed for and was wrong about? CJ extension is probably the closest one in that group and I'll accept that because it landed us Poole, who I have high hopes for and have gotten ridiculed for it. Its really hilarious.
