Thoughts on Adolescence on Netflix?

I found it so boring and simplistic. The plot is basically just the boy gets commits murder and gets arrested, the boy initially denies it, the boy later admits that he committed the murder, and was influenced to do so by "toxic masculinity" he found online.
I can't believe how this is considered the show of the year. I've rarely seen a more boring and simplistic show in my life.
The only thing that was impressive about the show is how they somehow managed to stretch out such a boring and simplistic show to be 4 episodes long.

It supports Hollywood's agenda so they gave it an award.

I thought it was masterful with the one-take camera production. I liked the plot even though it was predictable

I am pretty sure each of the episodes were shot in a single take, which is impressive from a filmmaking standpoint I guess.
Otherwise I agree the story was ultimately underwhelming and I found myself wishing I had spent the time watching doing something else.

i thought it was all white, not great.

I don't think it was exactly an anti-white film, but I do think that they deliberately made the main character white because the show would get lambasted as being racist if the main character wasn't white.

Outside of the “single take” filming, it was just another show to me. Not bad, not great.

It was okay. It got close to touching on some of the problems boys are facing with online content and loneliness. But it failed when they created him to be an anger-psycho maniac who had a propensity for violence.
That kind of person has a dangerous reaction no matter the context.

Any project that's anti-white or pro-lgbt is automatically going to get a ton of critical praise and award nominations and wins.
The critics and award circles judge a project by its political narrative every single bit as much as the other qualities.

I gave it a chance but when I found out that the actor/writer/director based it off of a African Immigrant (son) committing murder of a bunch of white English girls and then he flipped it or an incel son, I just couldn’t keep watching. The filming style was gripping and well done, after I learned that I just DGAF.

I thought it was great and sort of terrifying as a parent of a young boy. And impressive from a technical standpoint. And I think the acting was really good. Especially the dad.
I had gripes I think, but all in all I enjoyed it and think it should be required viewing for parents just based on the content itself.
I couldn’t care less that it was based on a story with different races. That’s just looking for something to get mad about IMO. Ultimately it could’ve been a completely fictional story and had the same impact.

A lot of soft people in this thread.

It's stupid that they changed the story to be woke, but it was otherwise really well done, the performances were incredible. The technical feat they pulled off with the cinematography is reason alone to watch.

I liked it but towards the end it wasn’t about the main story and more about the family
No closure whatsoever

The endless irony of a show that won big, was directed by a man up against 5 women, he wins, but of course, because it's Netflix, the white kid gets the award when the real life story was based off a black kid.
So much privilege, it's almost a crime.
