Im currently employed but I've been looking around for new opportunities for the past two years and haven't found anything better than what I have now.

I have heard from some industry insiders that a lot of companies are in a hiring freeze for several reasons whether it be AI, tariffs, low demand, or future outlooks.

What do the economists of the OT have to say?

Some industries are booming and others are not.

Some regions are booming and others are not.

What is your location and profession?

It's damned tough to make any moves for a lot of white collar guys right now.

Companies learned a lot of new tricks during covid and they're playing them right now.

I think it’s a tell-tell sign we’re in a slump right now, whenever it’s hard to get a job in the ever reliable O&G industry, especially if you live in South LA. I’ve heard it’s been very hard the last several months, for baws trying to find work in refineries. Don’t really know how true that is though since I’m not in that field.

I work in IT for a large commercial contractor based in Dallas. It's stable but there isn't any room to move up right now.

I was in education before going back to school in 2020 and getting my certs. I have experience in repairing hardware, networking, and security. I've run cables before as well when my company was going through a slump.

Was thinking about going into healthcare IT or public sector IT but I haven't gotten a response back for any of the applications I've done.

It's great in south Arkansas. The defense contractors are hiring thousands over the next year or two. With no experience, no skills and can pass a piss test, you can start at no less than $22/hour with all the OT you want. Can even get into double time if you really want to work.

It's brought wages up in the area as well. The lithium boom hasn't even begun yet.

I'm getting tired of seeing this used as an excuse by large companies as the stock prices continue to soar.

It's just a convenient excuse to go retard with hiring freezes, cost cutting, etc ala covid. Everybody figured out that all those cuts did crazy things for the bottom line and when a little upset gives them a good excuse to do it, they will. That shite worked alot better than they thought it would, and they didn't get mass exodus of skilled employees like they thought they might, so it'll be common place every 4-6 years from now on.

My understanding is Exxon and some others down the river from Baton Rouge haven’t extended as many full time offers to their summer interns this past year as they typically do. But that’s just something I was told.

The petrochemical industry is struggling right now, even with oil lower than recent years, which would normally suggest lower costs for feedstock. Apparently China’s petrochem industry has increased which has started to soften its demand of importing those byproducts from the U.S.

Tariffs benefit the big companies, which is why they are damaging the economy.

Medium and small businesses cannot compete. Its crony capitalism at its worst.

As opposed to offshoring all domestic industry and production to unfriendly communist empires? Something has to give before anything can improve.

Nope.

I’ve told yall a million times. Save your money. Stop buying new cars and big houses you have hefty mortgages on.

The rich are collecting and they don’t care if you have a family.

This is just reality. You need to be your own bank at some point. I’m not kidding.

Good luck
