What in God's name did I find under this dove breast?

So you can see what looks like a hole. At first I thought somehow the crop or something got blown under the muscle, but I pulled the breast off the breast plate and there was some bizarre stuff under there. It almost looked like tree bark or some type of fungus? It was literally attached to the breast bone.

It's more the mystery of what the hell this is that's bothering me. It almost looks like some kind of plant was trying to grow in it.

Yep, not eating that one. Looks like something from an alien movie.

We had a couple this year with parasitic worms in the meat. Had never seen that before.

Maybe an old, non-fatal wound from shot?

I just showed my vet wife and she was like I have no fricking idea, never seen anything like that. Her best guess was cancer or some type of parasite.

That’s nothing a little Tony’s can’t handle.

JK. Throw that in the trash and consider it a mercy killing

What are the chances of that coming from a botfly larvae? I don't know if they infect birds, but it has been reported in cattle from Mexico. I think there is a case of human infection in Texas not to long ago?

That’s another spot to stuff with cream cheese. Throw an extra jalapeño in the dove poppers and you’ll be good

Sure looks like this to me. Circular hole, took a stray bb to the chest and lived.

Hope you sterilized your hands, sink and coffee cup. Burn the feathers, guts and carcass. Then bury the ashes and get an MRNA vaccine.
