from being online all the time.

too much social media

too many online games

too many message boards (oh the irony)

not enough real life, real world, real human interaction. And sadly it's only going to get worse.

As the governor said today, social media is a cancer.

Most of TD is online all day.

This isn't an Internet problem.

but most of TD has lived life before being online all the time was even possible. Gen Z and Gen Alpha have never lived a "normal" life without the ability to be online. None of the mass shooters are old crusty bastards like the OT/TD Baws. It's the young kids who've been raised online.

I agree it’s going to get worse.

Think of how many kids are seeing these videos? How many are laying in bed at night watching a girl get stabbed in the neck? A conservative spokesperson being shot? War footage? Radicalized talking points?

Think of their worldview.

When I was 13, I was watching Little Giants and playing MarioKart with my buds while eating dominoes and drinking surge.

These kids are playing absurdly addictive brain rot games while believing the virtual existence of social media is real with a little gore and carnality on the side.

Most of TD is in a generation where our whole lives weren't glued to an iPad, smartphone, or internet.

It's absolutely an internet and social media problem. It's forced people into echo chambers, for better or worse.

Not that I disagree that social media has detached people from reality, but there were mass murderers prior to the public internet.

agree

It’s a discipline problem - make yourself talk to your kids and others

Tell your kids to get off their phones/devices -make them join clubs - make them go to church, etc

Kids are given too much freedom and way too many choices and their parents are just as addicted to the internet and themselves as their kids are

One of our neighbors kids got their fist phone a few months ago. The change has literally been overnight. Prior to phone...outside playing, talking, yard work, engaging with society...after phone...hunched over face buried on phone with a teenage scowl all the time. It's so sad

Obviously it's not the whole internet, it's certain sites and subsections that breed and foment extremism for young people before they even understand the world.

Parents need to be much more aware and restrictive of what their kids are consuming online and less concerned about being the cool parent that lets their kid run wild so they'll stop bothering them.

lets not act like kids int he 90s were not watching a ton of gore and crazy shite online.

Rotten.com, bestgore, those sites were completely unregulated and hosted just like normal website that anyone had access too.

I think the difference is that kids now spend their entire lives online and it makes them disconnected and atomized.

This is gonna sound crazy for TD, but bear with me here: You’re all But, it’s both, it’s not back and white.

Social media, the 24/7 news cycle, and our always-online lifestyle have desensitized people. Instead of exposing us to different viewpoints, it’s pushed many deeper into their own comfortable online bubble.

But here’s the catch: responsible, well-adjusted people can handle that. They can see nonsense online and move on with every day life. The problem is the small minority who can’t. People with no self-accountability, weak values, lacking support systems, and/or have fragile identities. That group, mixed with the constant drip of divisive media propaganda, is what’s broken society.
