Oof. First Kittle now Purdy.

The 49ers quarterback is expected to miss 2-5 weeks while dealing with a turf toe variant and an issue in his non-throwing shoulder, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday on Good Morning Football.

Purdy's status has grown increasingly less optimistic as the week has progressed, with 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan opening the week on Monday by telling reporters Purdy's toe was the greater issue. Later on Wednesday, Shanahan said Purdy's hopes of playing Sunday in New Orleans were a "long shot" at best

Nah. Some guys are just injury prone and with Purdy being smallish he fits that category.

There was a time that I thought if you gave Mac the 49ers weapons and Mike Shanahan, he would have Brock Purdy success. Well, here we go.

Turf toe is one of the absolute worst injuries for some reason. It doesn't seem "serious" in that it isn't like tearing an ACL or anything of that nature, but not being able to walk right from your big toe being sprained causes a terrible gait, which means other parts of your foot start hurting, and all you can do is rest it and do some stupid toe exercises

I had a bad case from doing calf extensions on the leg press and my toe overextended. I also did walking lunges on it and that just made it worse that day. Next month I could barely walk on it so then my ankle started hurting, and outside of my foot started hurting, and the PT people I went to basically said it would kind of run its course. It did but what a pain in the butt

Pretty much killed Darren McFadden's pro career. Plagued him for years and was never the same after he got shutdown week 6 from it for the rest of the year.

SF has to have the worst trainers in sports history or something is wrong with their practice field. It’s crazy how many injuries they have every year

When I first ever heard about "turf toe" and "hip pointer" injuries I thought what a BS injury------until they happened to me.

Damn that crap hurts like hell and makes even walking damn near impossible without a serious limp. And it seems to take forever to heal properly.

I got the hip pointer first and it took weeks to finally go away. Then a couple years later I got turf toe and it was horrible to deal with. I couldn't wear shoes other than sandals or flip-flops since any contact between the shoe and toe was very painful.

I get the temptation of picking against a team playing a backup QB, with no Kittle, on the road. Trying to steal a week of survivor by picking a team you would never pick again the rest of the year because of these specific circumstances, I can see the logic. Just saying, it's still a huge risk, the Saints just aren't any good
