LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier spent the first three seasons of his career hardly playing at all. Now he could be the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft.

Let's not sugarcoat it, he needs to make better throws than he did in the LA Tech game. I think he'll continue to get better as the season goes on, but I'm not ready to anoint him yet.

Citation needed. Pretty bold for averaging 1 TD a game and 5.9 yards/pass in his redshirt senior year. Where’s the actual beef?

For him to still have no running instinct whatsoever and do nonsense like still throw heavily off his back foot…the cart was way before the horse on this one. If he’s the best QB in the game, the game has never been worse

Mateer is the flavor of the week. He’s the new Heisman favorite and everyone is losing their minds over him beating a very average Michigan team

What’s the flavor of someone with substantially less production than that?

He's good but far from great. Tech exposed him and revealed a blueprint for other teams to slow down the Nuss bus (unless he gets adequate protection)

Not even going to read that article.
Based on results he is an average qb with potential, that’s it so far. Until his results get a Hell of a lot better that’s all he is.
I hope he balls out averages 300yds a game and goes 16-0 but until he does it on the field it’s “potential” and he is average.

Lol

Nuss slows Nuss down with the occasional under thrown deep pass, not running/ checking down/ throwing the ball away when that’s the best thing to do and a risky throw or 3 every game.

Ya just gotta hope he keeps those bad habits to a minimum every game and none of them lead to turnovers.

I'm not going to pick who's better because there's not enough data to make that call yet. But if you're going to pick one now, do you go with your gut, or do you rely on stats?

Because Mateer crushes Nuss in stats.

QB Rating
Mateer . 163.11
Nuss .. . 124.05

Yards Per Game Passing
Mateer . 331.0
Nuss .. . 234.5

Yards Per Game Rushing
Mateer . 49
Nuss .. . -12.5

Yards Per Attempt Passing
Mateer . 9.3
Nuss .. . 5.9

Comp%
Mateer . 71.8%%
Nuss .. . 68.4%

Nuss has shown nothing to indicate he is the best QB in the country. Need to see more

Dante Moore is my pick to win the Heisman. Oregon has a favorable schedule with the only real road challenges at Penn State and Iowa. The only other currently ranked team they play is Indiana.

Oregon always puts up big numbers on offense so you know he'll have the stats. Team success + stats = Heisman in a potentially down year. Mateer will drop off once OU gets into the meat of their SEC schedule.

Now, wait a damn minute - in the Clemson game, he clearly came up and called his own number because he believed that Clemson was convinced he wouldn't run it and, then he picked up a first down.

Did he skip an opportunity to run for a first down at least once against LA Tech? Sure. But, that was a great call and run versus Clemson (and he had a couple of nice sneaks in the opener as well).

I disagree. Love Nuss but John Mateer has shown the most thus far

Man I’ve really held off the “low IQ QB” label so far this year because I hope he really matured over the offseason.

Jury is still out, but IMO it’s still 50/50 if he grows or stagnates this year. Praying for the former.
