We are meeting a friend for dinner for her birthday in 2 hours. Step daughter gets home from school and heads to the pantry. I said “don’t eat…we’re going to dinner soon”. Wife is mad and tells me “you don’t tell a teenage girl anything about eating. It’s ok if she has a snack.”

But I know if she eats now she will order dinner and not eat it and I’m sick of buying meals and wasting them (and my money).

Was I wrong?

I'd tell her to stay home if she eats a snack and you will bring leftovers when you come back.

So you are going to spend the same money whether she eats a snack now or not, right?

Order an appetizer, then eat her dinner when she doesn't.

I think it is ok if she has a "snack." A meal ... no.

You're not wrong, but don't make a big deal if she eats the snack anyway.

Take your shirt off and spin it around your head like a helicopter to assert your dominance over her and her mother

What you said is logical but that often doesn’t matter when

Your stepdaughter and/or wife might have an insecurity about eating or weight, so it might make sense to approach the subject with an understanding that there is more to the situation than your pragmatic approach toward not wasting food at dinner.

This is one of the last things I would get worked up over. Just take the leftovers home, this isn’t complicated.

But I’m not a baby back bitch raising other people’s kids so your mileage may vary

This means your wife is completely in the wrong. And prey tell, what is step daughter getting from the pantry? Junk food. She's not eating a banana, or a chunk of cheese with some pepperoni, she's eating shite.

I guess you’re waiting for his response to go into your diatribe about how you hate all women and how they’re all evil and stupid. Should have just gotten it over with the first time
