What’s the science behind being more sore 2 days after working out as you get older?

When I was in high school and college, after lifting weights I’d be sore the next day and then be good.

Now when I lift weights in my mid 30’s the next day I’m not sore at all, then 2 days later I’m extremely sore.

Is it as simple as your body takes longer to do shite when you get older?

You’re on the back end of your physical prime. Be better

I've only ever been sore from working out when I 've had extended breaks. When I work out consistently, I'm never sore. I'm 40

Sounds like you are just battling DOMS. Pretty common thing for most folks. I remember seeing guys hit legs super hard for a night workout and when they weren't sore by the next morning, they would hit legs again thinking they "didn't get their monies worth" and must just need extra work. Little did they know the DOMS were coming with a vengeance.

I know what it is I’m just interested in finding out why it happens more as you get older?

Being honest, half the reason for this thread is to brag about the fact that I’ve been lifting weights consistently for the past 6 months and feel great about it

Healing process!

Micro tears in muscle fiber. Body responds by healing the tears. In so doing, builds back stronger. Inflammation from process peaks day 2.

Why proper rest is to a workout plan what weights and cardio are to a workout plan.

The workout is the tear down. The rest is the build.

Yep need some cardio in the mix to burn off the buildup.

You mean the 5 cups of coffee at work and the 6 beers I drank watching the game last night aren’t good for my workout?

Try changing up your workouts? If you’re not sore, you’re not doing it right.
