I couldn't finish it. I'm sure it's my own headspace or whatever, but my tolerance for any kind of racial / social justice messaging or the plight of the oppressed minority is almost zero. The first sign of any of it and I just turn off whatever I'm watching. It just takes me right out of the show.

I can understand that...but it is literally set in Mississippi in the 1930s.
It's not like it was shoehorned in there irrelevantly. Outside of the gratuitous scene at the end, it's pretty much non-existent.
I thought it was fun as frick. And has one of the best credits scenes ever (the second one).

That's unfortunate. Is it a black trauma type of film? I was debating whether to watch this but my tolerance for that genre is practically non-existent now.

Dude it’s not bad at all. There is a gratuitous, Django type scene with some KKK types at the end. Other than that it’s all within the context of the story.
I have a very low woke tolerance and in enjoyed it.

He said that in an interview they showed on Hard Knocks. I thought he came across as a very down to earth and cool over the course of the show. His teammates clearly love him. A husband being proud of his wife isn't really something that I'm going to hate on him for.

Yes, the social justice message is there.
There’s also a very strong anti-music industry message.
There’s a very strong message about Black people joining the corporate cult and harming Black people the same way Whites did during more racist eras. It presents Black on Black crime as destructive to the fabric of Black culture and existence.
There’s a very strong message about the appropriation of Irish folk and Black music as a means to control the underclasses.
The Irish and Asians are presented as just as downtrodden and hunted as Black people.
That’s why people like this movie. It has a lot to say and doesn’t let Black people off the hook; it shows how “the system” has turned them against each other.
And it has vampires.

This description leads me to believe it's a film I might enjoy. I'll probably check it out this weekend, I think it's on Hobo Max now.
