Former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron remains on the hook for more than $8 million that he owes to his ex-wife, Kelly Orgeron.

After the Louisiana Supreme Court ruled in June that Kelly Orgeron was entitled to half of Ed Orgeron's $17 million buyout from LSU firing him in 2021, the former coach asked the court to rehear his case and reverse their decision. Ed Orgeron's legal team argued that the high court ignored long-established precedent along with tax implications in their ruling, which they warned could upend decades of decisions on splitting community property.

But the Louisiana Supreme Court released a 4-3 decision Thursday saying they stand by their previous ruling. They denied Ed Orgeron's application for rehearing.

Kelly Orgeron and her legal team "could not be more delighted" with the ruling, her lead attorney said Thursday.

It's a pretty absurd ruling, frankly.

So if he had kept his job at LSU, she would not have been entitled to any of his salary paid after the community property termination. But because he got fired, she got half the buyout.

Should have put off signing that extension until after divorce filed.

Is that true? I don’t know how divorce courts handle guaranteed salary.

In the words of my divorce lawyer:

"This is a billion dollar industry run and driven by women that are incentivized to destroy their families for perceived happiness. The only people who win are lawyers and women. That's it. If men were the beneficiaries of divorce, the rates would plummet over night"

Yep. But we all know that he’s retarded. He also tried to have the effective date of his operative extension changed to make it look effective post-divorce.

I’m going out on a limb and assuming that he hasn’t exactly been Warren Buffet with his money. Only a matter of time before one of his old assistant coaching buddies hires him as a recruiting coordinator or position coach and he starts recruiting against LSU. Will be awkward to say the least. Maybe Kiffen or Sark?

Well, he earned all that money at once, while they were still married, because I believe the agreement was signed before he officially filed for divorce.

It makes sense. He did not earn that money for services rendered. He earned it prior as part of the guarantees.

I don't doubt his stupidity in going around and parading his conquests after their separation had an effect on these justices as well. They likely said, you are a dipshit, and couldn't not act a fool, so this is what you reap.

Or the 4 could be LSU fans that saw the cluster he created.

Actually its not.

Community property laws in LA are few, brief and for Louisiana pretty concise (that means we stole them from another state).

Eds people knew this was a loser from the jump. I'm sure they had him dump some of the loot in trust when this all started.

So he owes almost all of his post tax money to his ex wife. $6.8 million is what the taxes would be (roughly). Thus leaving $10.2 million left. $8 mil going to his ex wife leaves him with only $2.2mil....ughh thats unfortunate.

No wonder he wants to get back into Coaching. Dude is an absolute buffoon.

And now he has to pay his team of attorneys out of that 2.2mill. Left with almost nothing of his 17mill buyout.

But he could have been fired for cause and not have been paid anything, so it wasn't earned until termination agreement was signed (in my accounting, non-legal mind).
