My wife and I are coming to town for the UF game and staying 1 night in NOLA. I currently have a reservation at Galatoire’s for Friday night. Am I making a mistake?
Appreciate any suggestions. Want to do something that is classic New Orleans. Geaux Tigers!

If classic New Orleans is what you seek, then look no further than Galatiore’s

Galatoires or Arnauds
Drinks at French 75 either way

Keep your res at Galatoires! If you want to venture out the quarter but similar cuisine don’t sleep on Frank Brigstens spot uptown.

Galatoires is what you want. Ask the waiter what’s good that night and order that

Great restaurant. We’ll be there on Friday the 19th, “Blondies” birthday…

Good choice. Another I'd consider if not staying for only 1 night would be Antoine's.

Just know that Galatoire's does still have a dress code.

I always like to recommend Peche if you enjoy seafood.
Don't think it's "Classic New Orleans"...

One of the best restaurants in New Orleans.

Head's up that reservations for Galatoire's are seated in the newish upstairs room, not the classic room downstairs.
For that you still have to stand in line. Which can be long on Friday night.

This is 100%, undeniably incorrect!
The last 10 times I’ve been to Galatoire’s was with reservations and we were ALWAYS seated downstairs in the main dining room… most recently on Mother’s Day.
I live in the city, know the owner/manager, and my in-laws have historical family connections.
And what line are you talking about?!?

Arnaud’s and in particular Antoine’s are a joke. Unless you’re there for the history, the food is abysmal.
These are terrible rec’s, by people who haven’t been there in a decade.

Galatoire’s is typically very good to great, and absolutely a classic… always a good time.
My highest recommendations would be Clancy’s, Brightsen’s, Peche, St. Germain.

Another vote for Clancy’s-one of the best meals I’ve had in the city. Plus much less of a pain in the arse to get to since it isn’t in the Quarter.

Not for dinner. Galatoire’s lunch is classic New Orleans. And it’s all about the experience not really about the food as most of it is average at best. I say this as someone who dines there at least once a week and have been for over 20 years.

You’re speaking as veteran Nola foodie. This is a tourist asking for a solid rec. this is a solid rec, for a tourist. This isn’t the best meal he could have, but it’s pretty much “New Orleans “.
