Not from Houston, but will be in town for work in a couple of weeks. I need to make a dinner reservation for 6 people on a Tuesday night. I’m staying downtown, but the restaurant doesn’t need to be in downtown proper - I just don’t want to drive too far.

The dinner will be for an internal team, not clients (so I don’t have an unlimited budget, but will still consider nice places)

Any particular cuisine you’re looking for?

If you're looking Italian place that I find very good, that also does a great steak...give this place a look.

Doesn’t make a huge difference to me, but I think typical crowd pleasers would be Italian or Mexican.

Please don’t go to Biggio’s for a work function unless you’re taking shots. Bludorn, Josephine’s or Rustic if you’re trying to be casual. Biggio’s is great for what it is…pre Astros game.

You can't go wrong with Doris Metropolitan. Steak is done sous vide, finished on metal. It's a little more boutique than places like Steak 48. You can decide if the marrow luge is in your budget or not when you get there.

In the immediate area there is Potente, Osso and Kristalla for Italian…I’d go elsewhere like Tiny Champions in East Downtown or Miltons in Rice Village.

For Mexican…Xochi is high end Mexican with a Oaxacan focus…if you want Tex Mex…the original Ninfas is just east of downtown as is El Tiempo which belongs to Ninfas grandson…if you want the best Tex Mex in town…go to Candente in the Montrose.

Yeah East Downtown or Montrose feels like the move. Thanks for the suggestions!

How casual is Tiny Champions? Some pictures I’ve seen make the inside look small.

Is Nancy’s Hustle still a good option?

I am going to stop lurking briefly and suggest two favorites - Laurenzo’s on Washington and Federal American Grill on Shepherd. Laurenzo’s has something for everyone, is upscale without being stuffy. Food is excellent and service is polished. Ninfa Laurenzo family. Federal is excellent, just a smaller menu, but should have something for everyone. Both just minutes from downtown.

Federal Grill has a location on McKinney now downtown. Great for groups.

Other options:
Papas Steakhouse
Guard and Grace
The Grove

Agree with offshore

Mex / Tex-Mex = Xochi (Mex) & Ninfa's on Nav (Tex-Mex)

Italian - Coltivare, Marmo, Milton's, or Rosie Cannonball are all worth driving to over Potente IMO.

Best American restaurants within a 10 minute vicinity are Theodore Rex, Nancy's, Nobie's, Little's, or Josephine's.

Eunice is absolutely one of my favorites! Wasn’t sure if it was too out of the way though

Really enjoy that place.

Had their brunch buffet one Saturday or Sunday. Just overall didn't care for it so much. Wasn't bad, but I guess reading suggestions on this board had me all hyped up for it and was a bit let down.

Candente is worth the hype.
