Think like a Ditch digger.

Guy makes $46/hr, almost unlimited overtime, $65/day bonus for being on-call. Minimum of 3 hours pay if on-call phone rings, 1.5x pay after 8 hours in a day, 2x pay after 12, get sent home at 13.5 hours in a day if it goes that long.

Pretty easy to make 150-200k per year if you are reliable

The union ditch diggers up in the northeast can make pretty solid money but it’s absolute shite work.

Ain’t no ditch digger making $150k.

I’ll go nurse anesthetist. They can make $150k to $200k or more and don’t even have an MD.

PRN nursing at the right place.

Seen them make 150k easy while taking 2 or 3 full months off for the year.

MIL's BF does hotshot work with his 3/4 ton moving different types of parts and equipment. Startup cost is expensive but you make the money back within a few months. If you're okay being on call often and driving all the time, it's easy work. Hazard pay last year for moving multiple generators from BR to NOLA before the hurricane came in last year was a big money maker. Lots of businesses his company is involved with purchase things that are generally needed yesterday, so they pay a premium to get them there quick.

I'd do it if I were single, but it's not something you want to do if you have a family you like being around.

It’s more than that these days, 200k is the base in most areas. 250k is easy with little OT these days

I didn’t believe him when he first told me but my brother is a tech at a car dealership, works in a ACed shop all day, and makes ~$130k/year. He said he’s on track to probably break $140k this year. That’s damn solid money.

As is the case with most of these types of jobs. The premium pay is in being available when needed.
