Are some sharks overpopulated?

It just seems like the waters are overpopulated with sharks. And attacks seem more and more common. Are some species overpopulated?

Been fishing the Cocodrie area since the mid 80's. Never encountered more sharks than our trip this summer. Not even close.

Going to depend on your definition of overpopulated.
Population has increased to a point that they are negatively affecting our ability to recreate? Yes
Population is about what is has been for millions of years before humans started managing them? Who knows. The biologists have a guess but they don't really know either

Fish Cocodrie as well. I have never encountered more sharks than this summer.

All I know is I’m not getting in the water to fish anymore. Boats or land only from now on.

Sharks and protected Goliath grouper are decimating the reef fish population in some areas. Goliaths need thinning. Sharks, well, they have been doing it for years.

The amount of juvenile bulls and spinners and sand sharks on the beaches is definitely increasing.
I do like that they are allowing you to keep one undersized now. Haven’t kept one but all for someone keeping them

This year is bad but last year was the worst for me. I was losing 30-40% of my fish to sharks.

Last year was worse for me as well.

Affirmative
Much more in the past several years.
When a 4/5 foot spinner or black tip swims up we usually just poke them or shoo them away.
But, when a 6or 7 foot bull or lemon gets near and starts acting aggressive, the fun meter goes into the red.
Here is the remains of #50 jack and a snap shot from Juniors Go Pro of a bull chasing him back to the boat.

Same, been fishing from cypremort point since the 80's. It is freakin out of hand. I have a handful of hard bottom spots that produce without the sharks, but platforms cannot be fished. I even went 70 miles out into eugine island and had the same issue.

It was 24/7 coverage of the high rate of shark attacks, 3rd most important national news story. There were 76 shark attacks and 5 deaths that summer.........
the previous year there were 85 shark attacks and 12 deaths.

Yes! Catching them further and further North in Big Lake and Moss Lake now. Can't catch snapper without losing a few to sharks now. They need to let the fisherman thin them out some.

They're awful almost everywhere here in MS/LA waters.
Think I've seen more of these in the last two years than the rest of my life combined.

Yes. They are horrible. Especially bull sharks. Lost what appeared to be a solid 6-8# snapper today right at the surface. Huge bull inhaled him, clipped my leader (thankfully) and swam off. Lost 8-10 snapper or parts of snapper today, been bad for the past 3-5 years

There is no size or possession limit on bull and blacktip sharks. Catch them and take them home.

That is in state waters
