Does anyone remember that one local news show had a NOPD officer on within days of flooding that said he deserted his post and was leaving the city, citing chaos?

Because it was. I know of two incidents from Katrina.
- I worked for a medical company at the time that staffed most of the ER's at most of the hospitals in NOLA. We attempted to send 2 supply trucks there to get medicine and what not to patients. Both trucks were robbed at gunpoint and some patients ended up dying as a result.
- A cousin of mine worked for Wildlife and Fisheries and was helping perform rescues of stranded people with his boat. They passed a dealership where 2 guys were stealing Escalades. The two got in an argument and one of the guys pulled out a gun and smoked the other guy on the spot. Then he turned around and went right back to stealing the cars.

Looter loads himself down with jewelry. As he is walking through waist high muddy water, he encounters a pool, which he can’t see. They find his drowned corpse there weeks later.

Damnedest thing I heard during Katrina was listening to WJBO that morning and they were doing an interview with Governor Blanco, and when they called her Blanco’s press secretary picked up and said… THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF LOUISIANA and a trumpet fanfare played before Blanco started talking.

I guess if it were Jindal or Landry it would be Anthem of Evil.

For all the shite talking that goes on here ive always noticed you never see it to the extreme when it comes to Katrina. Im sure there is a small percentage of us long time posters that had to take certain actions during that time

I went to check on a friend's house afterwards and a neighbor rolled up and pulled an AR on me. I had to explain everything and go over my friends entire family tree as well as my friends before he chilled and believed me.
shite was wild back then.
That's my Katrina story of the day

When cleaning out FIL freezers and refrigerators I had two big curbside waste bins full of wet garbage. Took them to the temporary dumpster set up for parish disposal and they were two heavy to lift. Helpful person pushes from the bottom, I stand on top dumpster rail pulling, when it comes up I fall over backward into a very full dumpster full of rotted fish. No injury but it took a week of Clorox baths to get rid of the smell

You always have to watch out for those random pools that come out of nowhere.
This story is up there with the search and rescue dog that died when he went in the water and the shark swimming on canal street.

Not saying this happened but it's at least plausible if a looter was stealing from residence in a flooded upscale neighborhood...
