Haven't seen it discussed much (maybe it just goes unsaid) but is this the plan on early downs to slow down mobile QBs like CK?

If so, i like our chances. Perk thrives in space. See ball get ball. Not surprising our ability to stop mobile QBs greatly diminished after he went down last year.

Yes. Kelly laid out his gameplan and defensive alignments in the presser last night. No surprises

Spy, cover, blitz, stop the run. Perkins will be asked to do a ton.

Perk, Payton and Gooden get after him. The Weeks boys (and/ or Keys) kill him if he gets outside.

We actually plan to pull the other 10 guys off the field and let Perkins do it all himself since he's better than all of those guys anyway and go 1 v 11. I like his chances.

That's only on defense. I heard we plan to sit and save Nuss, letting HP run the offense as well.

I wouldn't call it spy, it's more like search and destroy

I'm curious to see what Baker does with Perkins. The QB spy assignment worked really well in 2022 (most notably vs. Alabama and Arkansas) but was largely a non-factor in 2023. Even in 2024, outside of one big play, he as the "star" was a work in progress. Sellers ran with ease against LSU before he got hurt.

Thrives might be a little strong. He moves well in space, but he has had his fair share of missed tackles in the open field. Hopefully he’s improved his tackling and doesn’t leave his feet.

I was actually planning on making a post about this today. Klubnik had a 50ish yard run with a minute left to beat Pitt last year. His scrambling is a big way that I could see them creating offense even if our DL and DBs are playing well. Need some sort of spying type role on almost every play. Doesn't have to just be Perk - I think guys like Singleton, Pyburn, and Whit can also do that at a high level. No need to limit what we do with 7 and be predictable.

Does Klubnik’s rushing yards come off scrambled or designed runs?

You obviously can’t really spy him if they are designed option runs.

It depends if Baker calls Man to man or zone. Probably doesn't spy in a zone situation.

The only issue I see with Perkins being the Star is that you can force that position into coverage nearly every down if LSU is in their base defense. With Clemson's strength being their WR group, that will be the goal.

Baker will have to counter that strategy.

If he does, it might be a long, bad day for Klubnik.

Chances are we haven’t learned or developed anything from last year and lsu defense will make this did look like Patrick mahomes just like they did Milroe and that dude from Texas A&M last year

Even if they force him in coverage, Perkins was one of the better coverage guys, I like our chances in that spot. I think this is a highlight game for Perkins as for as match ups go. Just hope he’s back at 100% speed of the game wide.

He'll do both.
