Is JD Vance the new Benedict Arnold of American politics?

The case for JD Vance as our generation’s Benedict Arnold isn’t hard to make. When he published Hillbilly Elegy, he branded himself as an authentic voice for forgotten America — skeptical of both political elites and the false promises of populism.
He trashed Trump five years ago as “cultural heroin” and criticized the very GOP donor network that now bankrolls him. But once he saw the path to power, Vance flipped. Today he parrots MAGA talking points and cozies up to the same billionaire class he claimed to resist. That’s not evolution — that’s opportunism.
Benedict Arnold didn’t start out a traitor either; he was a celebrated general who turned coat when ambition outweighed principle. Vance’s about-face feels the same: a man who traded his credibility, and the honesty of his own book, for a seat at the table. In politics, that’s the ultimate betrayal.

This is a solid post. Exactly what I expect from a liberal white woman. Awesome you share their feelings!

No frolicking in a major city to show how safe it is? I'm disappointed troll.

It took some real mental gymnastics to come up with such a shitty take. VOR and 4dummies would be proud.

Vance may have "evolved" on policy to take advantage of opportunity, but not to the degree you suggest.
I would say that Vivek Rameswamey is a lot better example of what you are claiming.
Vance is more like GHW Bush calling supply side economics "voo-doo economics" and then accepting the VP spot.

Everybody trashed Trump then so what’s your fricking point?

OR... Maybe during the five years, JD got to know Donald better and realized his vision for "forgotten America" is in agreement with JD's. No one should argue that Donald's actions have not been aimed at helping the America that liberals have tried to destroy. In fact, that's what he is ALL about - restoring the traditional values that made us the greatest country in history, i.e. MAGA.

Trump has a knack for finding common ground and bringing people to his side. Just look at the popular vote.
Horrible take. Vance is no MAGA automaton, but he is a good man and a patriot.

Maybe, just maybe, JD realized the the people he used to associate with are the traitors, and he wants to squash them for what they've done to the country.
