This is for a party of 8...they are looking for a dinner place.

Some members of this party may want to wear shorts, so that will eliminate some places...

You can go to 98% of restaurants in New Orleans in shorts in summer. The ones you can’t I can think of off the top of my head (Emeril, Commanders, Galatoires, August)

Also can you define casual? Even some very high end restaurants are pretty casual now. Casual can have a lot of connotations.

In terms of the “best” aka higher end but casual dress, off the top:

Peche
Paladar 511
Cochon
Lilette
Le petite grocery
Compere Lapin

These days, a lot of places won’t blink at shorts as long as you don’t look like a bum. How much are they willing to spend?

Also, the best restaurant in the city, Saint Germain, you could probably wear shorts. Doubt that’s what the group is looking for though.

Any particular area or style?

Cochon Butcher in the CBD seems to be a hit.
Willa Jean is a bit of a curveball place, more of a lunch/afternoon meal than dinner.

Felix's or Mr Ed's is generic seafood that is super casual.

Uptown you have High Hat, Joey K's, Pizza Domenica, Rum House

Midcity has Alma, Katie's, Toups Meatery, Mandinas, Liuzza

Frowned upon there yes.

Turned away I don’t think so.

I wouldn’t wear shorts to Clancy’s and I’ll wear them whenever I can get away with it

May be a bridge too far. Probably no problemo in places like Saffron or La Petite.

Costera might be a fit.

Unique enough food. Casual enough that shorts wont feel out of place. Easy enough to get 8 people in.

I'd probably recommend The Husky or Pigeon & Whale on Freret.

8 at Pigeon and Whale would be tough - that place is tiny

I’d add Katie’s in this area too…
