In short, the future hasn't happened yet, so it's not real and time doesn't matter

It’s amazing the culture differences with respect to time across the globe. Many view time as an abstract while as Americans we view it as something to abide by. I’ve not seen this future difference, but it makes sense.

i saw this going around right wing X today and actually found it enlightening.

we make jokes about the west progressing and them still living in mud huts, but the idea of not viewing progress as a means to an end is not the worst thing in the world to them.

our idea of using/wasting time is mostly an exclusively western idea.

i think the philosopher she quotes is a bunch of goboly asian, but I did find it interesting at least.

It explains many things about the African continent.

Eta
What I mean by that is it seems like many communities in the African continent do not think things through for the long term future yet continuously look to the now/immediate future.

Look at the relationships with China that’s currently going on.
Look at how the tribe, village, and country leaders took massive bribes from colonizing countries where they essentially sold their country’s future to outsiders for immediate, personal benefit.

If your philosophy is that the future isn’t real and that time is created, you are much more likely to act in a way to maximize your personal, material gain immediately rather than make a decision that will benefit people you do not know/haven’t been born yet, in 15-30 years.

This has always been a problem in Africa - the lack of forward thinking. We spent a ton of resources trying to develop agriculture over there and we couldn't beat that concept into their head. Why grow something when I can take it from somewhere else? Why let something grow longer when I can eat it now? Why grow more than I personally need?

It's easy to see how civilization never took a foothold with that mental roadblock.

Africans eat all the eggs before they are chickens, or eat all the chickens because they don’t see the need for eggs. So eventually they need food brought in on trucks.

You’re not wrong in the effect of not believing in the future, but I think its wrong to call it a philosophy.

If it’s a philosophy at all, it’s a philosophy that was created to explain why Africans behave as if they don’t understand the concept of the future and delayed gratification.

Teens in St Louis aren’t gunning each other down because they’ve decided to live in the present like a monk.

She is right. The present moment is all there is. It's all a long string of present moments.

sounds like the philosophy followed them across the Atlantic. A lot of the African folktales and fables involve animal characters tricking each other and taking from others.
