It is circulating on social media that a Meijer store manager was fired after having an autistic deli worker arrested for allegedly stealing food that was reportedly headed for the trash.
The incident involved a 19-year-old autistic employee, James Denison, who was confronted by police in the manager's office of a Seven Hills, Ohio, Meijer location in March 2024.
Reports suggest the manager compiled a list of small items taken by the employee until the total exceeded $100 before calling the police, leading to the employee's arrest and firing instead of a warning or support.
The incident has generated public outrage and calls for a boycott of Meijer, with many criticizing the company for criminalizing a disabled teenager for taking food that would have otherwise been wasted.

Why is Boycott Meijur

the store's manager stated that the 16-year-old James Denison ate chicken and fruit cups, worth $110, from the deli section for three months. James did not deny the accusations as the police officer handcuffed and took him to his car

The nation is going nuts over this. A disabled 16 yr old employee has been sneaking food that was in the trash. The manager, decided to not confront and let them tally up over 100.00 worth of product, then have said teen arrested.

George Costanza is furious…

Who cares if the kid ate something that was getting thrown away….

When I was a kid, we use to walk down to the Tastee donuts and ask if we could have the old donuts that were getting tossed. They would give them to us…

The manager is a guy. The video of the arrest is out there. Can’t remember if it was the manager or the security guy, but one of them had a big smile on his face as the cops were arresting the kid.

There is the distinction. You ASKED. Evidently this kid didn't and just decided to eat the food.

Now, was getting law enforcement necessary? Probably not. But we are only getting one side of the story. Regardless, a very basic adage applies: If something doesn't belong to you...don't take it...even if you believe it's not a big deal to take it.

Sad thing is the manager waited for the autistic kid to eat over $100 worth of food, then decided to get the law involved. Manager could’ve just warned him and told him to stop. It was a piece of shite move if you ask me.

Guys a friggen douche for not just asking the kid about it when he first noticed instead of counting down a tally to arrest him. Some people have 0 going on in their lives

Whole bunch of dickheads in the world.

Everyone still seems a little at each others throats since covid. Also i think social media makes us more hateful towards each other.

It’s an absolute bitch made move by a dweeb that’s too pussy to actually confront an employee.

Calling the law over what amounts to a clerical error is hilarious

When I worked at Kroger in high school, we’d always swing by the deli at closing and grab a donut or 2 that were being pulled to throw away. This happens in every grocery store in America and I guarantee 99.9999% of managers do not give a frick

The kid is disabled. The manager knew about it early on and instead of addressing it, allowed it to continue so he could build a case and have the cops come in and arrest him and take him out of the store in cuffs. And even after a few months, the amount of food amounted to a little over $100.
