It's cheating to use Forever Young in the trailer. That song rules.

I don't know about that. Maybe-ish?

Out of the two Safdie Brothers (Good Time, Uncut Gems) movies coming out this year, I think this one will end up being the better movie.

Benny Safdie: The Smashing Machine
Josh Safdie: Marty Supreme

I will give the Safdie's this, those SOBs can cast a film.

Very Tarantino-level eye for it. The casting of O'leary is genius. The guy has incredible screen presence and can deliver a line with emotion. Very similar to how they used Mike Francesa in Uncut Gems.

They also make great original films about interesting people. We are very lucky to have tnem making films right now and I will see their movies, regardless of the trailer.

There was an impromptu screening last night and the reactions are encouraging. I think this will put Timothy Chameleon as the frontrunner for Best Actor.

quote:

MARTY SUPREME is a sprawling and electrifying sports epic bursting with vitality from the first frame to the last. Josh Safdie delivers a masterful slice of organized chaos on a larger scale he’s ever worked with before, propelling us through Marty’s relentless quest to prove to everyone he’s the best ping pong player in the world. Timothée Chalamet, speaking a mile a minute with a hyperactive mind and unshakable confidence, throws himself into the role with total commitment, emotionally and physically, crescendoing in a climatic moment that had the audience standing on their feet and cheering. The result is a performance and a film that feels as exhilarating, surprising, and nerve-shredding as anything Safdie has ever directed. The score is phenomenal, pulsing with otherworldly energy, while the kinetic editing makes the film’s two-and-a-half-hour runtime fly by faster than a ball ricocheting across the table. One of the most invigorating and best sports stories ever put to screen.

quote:

Marty Supreme is another Safdie masterpiece and somehow even more anxiety inducing than Uncut Gems. This movie is proof Timothee Chalamet is an incredible actor when he’s actually given proper material. Best film of the year and one of the funniest I’ve seen in ages.

quote:

MARTY SUPREME is Safdie’s best film yet. A kinetic odyssey that plays like a deranged cross between CATCH ME IF YOU CAN & UNCUT GEMS. Timothée Chalamet delivers the performance of a lifetime in this unforgettable, awe-inspiring cinematic tour-de-force that fires on all cylinders

They came for Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and I did not speak out, because I am not a Joseph Gordon-Levitt fan.
They came for Leslie Jones, and I did not speak out, because I am not a Leslie Jones fan.
Then they came for Timothée Chalamet, and there was no one left to speak out for Timothée.

Yes, Mr Wonderful.

He'll probably steal the show. He is an extremely good communicator and has a ton of charisma. He looks like he cab actually act, too, because that is what he largely did on his show for years.

The Safdie's can cast a film with the best of them...

When I was skimming the board I thought this said "Morty Supreme" and thought we were getting a live action story of Rick and Morty with Chalamet playing Morty.

I'm disappointed.

Chalamet on Gameday did his career more favors than any movie role could.

2.5 hours for a feel good ping pong story? Sheesh.

Even pursuit of happiness was under 2.

Why do you assume the Safdie movie will be "feel good"?

Kevin O'Leary and Fran Drescher? Bringing out the big guns for this one. O'Leary looked decent in the trailer though.

I wasn't sure what to expect before watching the trailer since it is A24, but I actually think that looks pretty damn good. And I do not have Chalamet fatigue yet. He was awesome as Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

You gotta admire his work ethic. He’s striking while the iron is hot and is getting lots of good roles.
