I’ve never eaten there but have been looking for another chain turnaround story similar to Chili’s and thinking this may be worth putting a little bit into.
The CEO has been there about 2 years and has done the typical things you’d expect like implying the menu, renewed focus on consistency, etc. Was previously Texas Roadhouse CEO and turned their business around as well.
Stock is currently trading under $7 which is an 80% drop from where it was in 2021. Looking around and most of their restaurants are fairly well reviewed.

There’s one right by our neighborhood. I actually like Red Robin, but I hardly ever go. Never had a bad experience there, so your post has me wondering why it’s not more, or as, popular as it used to be. Hell, everyone still knows their jingle
I think a lot of places took huge hits after COVID. Once people were “forced” to change their routines, the habit of going back just kind of faded

Looks good on their website. I've never eaten at one. Tried it lately?

We had a Red Robin franchise location built new from the ground up in central Arkansas about 3-4 years ago. Lasted maybe a year or two.
Closed down about 2 years ago.

Look it’s a pretty good kept secret but they sell Donatos pizza and it’s great if cooked all the way.
Buy
Edit haven’t eaten inside in years do they still do endless fries?

There are comparable places that are much better values.

i’m not all that interested in the food outside of how the restaurants are viewed by customers, all of them seem to have very good reviews for fast food.
they were underwater for awhile but have posted back to back quarters of profitability, their CEO seems very competent and their shares are trading at seemingly a discount.
what am i missing here ?

I can not offer anything but anecdotal evidence here but being the father of two teenage girls and all of their annoying friends :) , I personally wouldn’t invest in hamburger based restaurants as long term strategy (maybe you can make a nickel or two short term).
Whole generation of girls that just aren’t eating as much ground beef…prefer chicken, chicken sandwich or chipotle like option over a burger.
Beef prices are through the roof right now which can’t help their profit line as well

I went for the first time in 20 years a couple of months ago with my kids. From an investment standpoint, I love that they have self-checkout at the table where you don't even need a server. That tells me they want to turn tables fast, which is great for revenue. I haven't seen their financials, but I know it's about getting $ as quickly as possible, which is positive.

The stoned bird logo has apparently been done away with.

The risk in the restaurant sector (in general) always makes me want to steer past it and look in other areas for a play.
