Ok so I could only take about 1
Minute of that. But my take away is damn I’m getting old. She was so hot back in the day.

Overblown. There's a lot of good movies being made. People need to realize movies don't have the impact they once did. Kids nowadays care about streamers and video games. Movies are way down the list.

She has been explicit about aging without doing any treatments or surgery. Take it or leave it.
My pastor had a great quote today when talking about the pursuit of beauty and vanity.
“For all the people trying to make sure they don’t age, one of my friends buried his 40 YO wife this week after a year long battle with cancer. . He would take her with all her wrinkles 20 years from now as opposed to his reality.”

People without kids don’t quite understand how true this is

It’s a combination of factors:
1. Streaming services have basically killed off traditional mid-budget Hollywood movies. 15-20 years ago before streaming services were a thing, film production companies were willing to take bigger risks with IP projects because they knew they could make the lost money back with physical DVD and Blu-Ray sales. It’s why the market for mid-budget films flourished back then.
2. Screenwriting quality, directing quality, and talent evaluation has massively declined in the past 5 years.
3. Old-school film companies are being bought out by corporations like Netflix, Amazon, and Disney. These corporations want to churn out as many shows/movies in a short amount of time to maximize profit. Quantity over quality. Much easier and less time-consuming to slap together a CGI-fest of a superhero film than it is to actually make an original story.

quote:True, but the same could be said in 2018, and we had films cleaning up. Seems like a cope from the media apparatus, at this point.

When quality films are made today, they still clean up. Some studios and IP have lost the faith of their core audience, like Star Wars, Marvel, and other Disney projects. Warner was in a similar boat, but their future remains to be seen, Superman was pretty good. . .
Disney is it's own thing, atm. They can't release any property it seems without backlash, This is largely thanks to their deliberately injecting themselves into the political fray in Florida, during a time when we were all paying attention to such things (pandemic).
I think her point about Hollywood making fear-based choices is pretty sound. AAA gaming is in a similar boat. If you make a game for everyone, you make a game for no one.
Weapons and Sinners are 2 of the best movies this year, and they made bank.
I think when studios know their audience, and make movies for that audience, they do well. When studios do not, they struggle.
Minecraft, Lilo & Stitch, F1, Wicked, Mission Impossible, etc.

This can be tied directly to your first point.

Without mid-budget movies for these folks to cut their teeth on, there’s just no screening/training anymore. It’s why when someone makes some good indie films and a successful blockbuster they suddenly hand that person the reins to another blockbuster despite no evidence of continued success (like Taika Watiti).

(like Taika Watiti).
Taika cut his teeth on low-mid budget films, as well as television. He then worked as a writer, then director on Ragnarok
His getting full control of Thor: Love & Thunder was a logical progression, He just wasn't capable.
But you aren't wrong. in your point.

Two different issues and yet you pick the one that isn’t relevant. Yes, she got old, but she also stepped away from being in front of the camera to do something else. Get over it. She knows what the hell she is talking about whether you still find her attractive or not.
Honestly, if she still looked like the 20 year-old version from Family Ties would you listen to what she said?
I think that says a lot about you.

You think Jason gives her money to help out?

Video game industry took over the movie industry in annual revenue quite a few years ago I believe.

There are a lot of factors, but every business has suffered from an abandonment of pride in product to pure profiteering. If you aren't maximizing every dollar, you get bought out by those who do. Those who do kick out cheap, soulless shite. Enough people still lap it up to drive stock prices. Rinse, repeat.

Justine >>>> Jason. I listened to Jason's podcast as long as I could until it went off the rails and got totally political. He seems like a likeable guy, butit's pretty clear he's a Hollywood bubble dweller, completely bought in, everything about his life revolves around being in the entertainment industry. Justine seems like a true intellectual and a genuinely interesting and thoughtful person.

Covid killed movie theaters/general release.
While locked down people went wholesale to streaming and there are still a lot of covid wary people out there that don't want to go to a movie theater with the "great unwashed"

Pretty sure most just realized that we can watch the same movie at home in 2 months rather than goin to the theater and not being able to pause it and having to pay for overpriced drinks/food.
There used to be a long gap between theater release and home streaming but that isnt the case anymore.

Absolutely a factor.
I remember E.T, Star Wars, and Raiders were all in theaters for over a year.

So did the strikes help or hurt the quality?

I wasn't getting into the politics of anything. I was honestly curious how that works out in families like that where you have a big star with money. Jason Bateman is reported to be worth about $30M. Do rich sibling actors help out siblings you think?
