Why does everyone on the Music board claim they hate U2?
What is the real reason besides Bono is a douche?
If you have always disliked their music that’s a good reason
I think they were one of the best bands out of the 80’s
I loved 80’s 90’s and early 2000’s
(All That You Can’t Leave Behind)
I don’t really listen to them anymore but if a song comes on I rarely skip
Legendary
I even think Bono’s son’s band Inhaler are pretty good.

The Joshua Tree is a good album.
I saw them on tour in Houston I think late 2000s.. Muse opened. That was a great show.. but yeah Bono is a douche.
Then they had that thing where their album auto-downloaded to iPhones (or something like that) which wasn't a good look.

I've disliked U2 since the '80s.

I did like some of their early stuff , that Red Rocks show from the 80s was pretty tight. I kind of cooled on them as the years went by but I don't really have anything in particular against them

I liked stuff like
In the name of love
And
Sunday bloody sunday

I bought War on cassette in 1983 when we went to Ireland and absolutely loved it and Unforgettable Fire the next year. Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby were great but a bit too polished. Rattle and Hum and Zooropa were good. And that was when their hubris, pretentiousness, and douchiness took over. So IMO they had a pretty darn good run of their first eight, which is much more than most bands accomplish.

They had some very good songs. Not sure why people have a problem saying that a band has some great music even if you dont like the band

FIFY: who here can admit they met U2 back in the day?
Old Man Rivers in Avondale. May 8, 1981. Played two of their songs over again as an encore. Set List
All 4 of them signed their EP for us. Whoever eventually stole that out of the WPRG control room... I will find you one day.

I liked their early stuff. I really liked edge's guitar.

Jus me, perhaps, but it was as if he'd lost his edge.

The early stuff was great, War, Boy, Under a Blood Red Sky and even October. I guess it was Joshua Tree when I lost interest. I did try to watch that new Bono doc a few weeks ago and made it about 2 minutes before I had to turn his pretentious arse off

Bullet the Blue Sky gets it done for me. All That You Can't Leave Behind is my fav from them. Not a huge fan, but not a hater.

"New Year's Day" slapped incredibly hard for 1983 and still slaps today. The Edge's harmonics were, well, so cutting edge for the time.

This, the singing just seemed incredibly pretentious and the music just boring. I'd been out of school for a few years by then and did like REM (only semi-pretentious), but U2 - no thanks.

I liked them.
Dont dislike them now.

They were ok
Never bought an album and I've bought a lot.

I’m a big fan. Always have been. Saw the Joshua Tree tour in the Dome a few years back with Beck opening. Rattle and Hum takes me back to high school/college. Would have killed to see them in the Sphere. Bono is koo koo like coco puffs though

I started college in 1985. They were still considered an alternative rock/college band. I liked them, and they were quite popular in my circle.

I liked U2s early stuff and think Joshua Tree is an epic album... I actually really like Rattle and Hum in retrospect... after that I haven't really cared for their music, but that's about par for a lot of bands...
I think its pretty impressive that they have stayed together all these years...
