How disappointed is the Weather Channel when a major hurricane doesn’t make landfall?

Add all other news organizations into the above question. Heck add the global warming crowd too.

Are they really glad that a Cat 5 Erin is (seemingly) going to turn and wander back out to sea instead of bear down on the US mainland?

And here is a bonus question: How many of the annual prognosticators for hurricane activity ever say ‘It is going to be a quiet year’ or later admit that the year was quieter than they predicted?

I’m so sick of my “local” tv weather forecasters who spend an entire, supposedly local forecast blathering about some storm out in the Atlantic that they admit has no chance of affecting my weather area or even any part of the US for that matter. Just tell me what my “local” forecast is and how it might affect me. Oh and please stop using “actual” temperatures and ridiculous “feels like” temperatures interchangeably.

Poor guy just wants to arrive in the closest major city to landfall two days ahead of time to see how many free meals from local restaurants he can get then come back after the storm and wear his bicycle helmet. Is that too much to ask?

Well yeah jackass. At least it’s a cloud in my area and not one out in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

Who says it's not making landfall? It has yet to make that vaunted "pivot." Puerto Rico, The VI, Turks & Caicos, Bahamas, and Bermuda are all potentially in the line of fire, and the U.S. coastline will not be suitable for surfing from Brunswick GA to Nantucket.

A rapidly warming world is not for the faint of heart.

That'd be none.

They are as much entertainment as information. Predictions of normalcy dont bring the views. Neither does apologizing.

Hate to break it to you baw, but its the middle of August. It's hot, there's about a 20-30% chance of rain, and there's no relief in sight. They have to talk about something other than that exact same forecast from June to the end of September.

On Friday they were about to wet their pants when Erin finally became a hurricane.

Only thing rapid here is the decline in your already paltry number of brain cells.

You and your MAGA tribe continue to deny what's happening with the climate at your own peril.

Wx channel = private company
Private company = needs to make money
Needs to make money = advertisements
Advertisements = needs viewers
No landfall = minimal viewers

Pretty simple.

This is such a stupid attempt at a gotcha.

How about “any appreciable temperature change during our lifetimes is going to frick up our way of life and infrastructure”?

Is there anything positive about rising temperatures?

That’s fine. Until all their weather hysteria starts freaking people out.

The next thing you know, they’ve shut the schools down for an entire week, while your practical employer remains open. Dilemma!

All the while the storm never hits.

You would hope every hurricane did this, but yes they seemed a bit bummed out when it’s a monster and not gonna hit land. That guy in the evening that used to work at the NHC is the worst when a storm is out there and doesn’t act like he wants it to.

When have you seen a cat 1 go to cat 5 within 24 hrs? Seems legit.
