You see these stories practically every day now. I remember them hardly ever appearing until the last decade plus.

I think it has to be the intersection of pornography and technology. Porn is ubiquitous these days, and it seems that the more many people consume, the more and different things needed to get them off increases. Technology provides easy access to the gateway, and some just can’t help but dive further and further into the abyss until they will do whatever they have to do to satisfy those desires.

If you disagree, please tell us what your theory is, because it seems epidemic at this point and it both enrages and sickens me.

It has been occurring for centuries. The documentation of it is abundant.

Internet makes it easier for them, and also to find them.

I don’t think it’s an explosion of it.

I think social media just makes you more aware of it.

It’s been going on this prevalent for an extremely long time

I think it’s just more frequently reported and punished now, which is a good thing

I understand this. I just can’t imagine it was happening at the same levels that it is today.

It’s harder to hide it now.

Also, people grew up faster back then.

Today 15 will get you 20. In the past, it wasn't a shock to see a wedding where the groom was 16 and the bride was 15.

If there is an increase in abuse it's just the pendulum swinging back to ancient Rome.

Child sexual exploitation and murder/sacrifice is as old as history itself. Ishtar temple prostitutes, Molech worship, etc. In more recent history Franklin coverup, Boys Town, Hastert, Sandusky, to name but a few. This has been going on for a VERY long time.

Internet

People can see horrible things online all day everyday and it fuels their obsession

A lot less wondering what it would be like

This. And quite frankly, there are no shortage of cultures that had what we now consider - rightly - to be child abuse, but was more or less considered to be normal and accepted behavior for them.

Why it's apparent? The internet and the explosion of bad conspiracy theories exploding into normie culture.

Because they were hidden.

Your eyes are fooling you, and likely your brain (by seeking out confirmation of your incorrect, pre-conceived notions on the issue, likely due to the content you consume)

Many people, including you I imagine, feel the same way about violent crime.
