The grand jury has agreed to indict Latoya Cantrell which will be the first time ever that a sitting Nola Mayor faces criminal prosecution

A federal grand jury returned a criminal indictment Friday of New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell, capping a years-long corruption investigation that had overshadowed the mayor's second term.
The grand jury handed up charges against the sitting mayor at the Hale Boggs federal building in downtown New Orleans shortly before 1 p.m. Addressing Magistrate Judge Eva J. Dossier, a member of the grand jury identified Cantrell as a defendant against freshly filed charges but did not list the counts she faces or describe the allegations they stemmed from. A copy of the indictment was not immediately available.

Jeffrey Vappie, the mayor's former New Orleans Police Department bodyguard who a federal grand jury accused last summer of wire fraud and false statement counts, was indicted on fresh charges in Friday's indictment.
The criminal charges — an apparent result of the wide-ranging probe into Cantrell's spending, political activities and other alleged acts — mark a stunning low point for the Democratic mayor, a former neighborhood organizer who rose eight years ago from a seat on the City Council to New Orleans' top office. Her ascent shocked the city's political class and epitomized changes that swept New Orleans politics following Hurricane Katrina.

The idiots in NOLA will elect someone just like her next year. Nothing ever changes.

Thank you, Jesus!
Details haven't been released. It could be due to a number of things.
ETA: Vappie was also indicted.

I blame Mitch Landrieu really , but nothing about her "ascent" was "shocking" to anyone with a brain or eyes.

Nothing will happen to her. In a year, she will be in another high paying job for some leftist organization. People like her always fall forward.

Is there someone the state can take over a failed city? I’m not saying that the state government in Louisiana is any better, but New Orleans is fricked beyond repair.

Mitch should have been indicted for corruption involving Sewerage and Water Board

The feds don't indict people just to see if they can get a conviction. They have been building this case for years.
