I think we all saw this when watching games but it’s interesting to hear him say it out loud. There was a gap in the communication between CB and S and it looks like that gap may be closing this season. At least we hope for it.

I believe our secondary will play good this year. Doesn’t have to be great, but good.

Mix in pressure from the front 7, allow perk to STAR…

Give me a top 40/50 defense with this offense and we feel good

I think Haulcy and Cooley will be your starters. I think they had Gilbert running 2nd team Star at one point.

All they have to do is, beat the guy across from them 51% of the time.

Remember 2013, when the #21 defense was a season-ruining tragedy? How the mighty have fallen.

It's honestly not even that much, when you think about overthrown, qb sacks, having close enough coverage that the QB throws to somebody else.

Just be good enough in coverage for the front 7 to get the sack. I don't know how much time thst is, but i'm sure they do. Other than that, be able to put a hand in if the ball comes your way.

We miss the playoffs if the defense remains that weak

This defense has been kicking this offenses arse. So either this defense is better than top 50 or this offense won’t be something we can lean on as much as we think.

Even more confusing considering a few of them cross trained. Addition by subtraction with Sage Ryan transferring.

Not surprising. I’m glad we’re out of the Sage Ryan / Major Burns era of incompetency.

We’ve had to hide liabilities personnel wise for 4-5 years now. Scheme to hide guys.
I think this year we can call plays more to attack the offense rather than hide our weakness.
Hopefully we will be better than average and all 3 levels and get a multiplier effect.
Backfield better = Front seven better
Front Seven better = Backfield better

I really think this defense could be top 30 if the offense can run the ball decent and maintain drives

I think that's selling their potential short. I believe they're capable of being a top 10 defense. There's depth and all conference potential at every position group.

They said this in the practice report on the Bengal Tiger podcast today. They said the defense was attacking and is dictating what the offense can do in team sessions. They are disrupting everything. We were read and react for two years under House and, like you said, there was a lot of hiding and watering down due to personnel last year. That’s not what we will see this season and I’m so ready for it.

Baker is going to cause problems this year. I expect to see notable jumps in both sacks and turnovers forced.

Even if the offense is struggling against this defense, it's good that they have a great defense to go up against in practice, it will just make them better.
