Ascension Parish plans to clear residents from 17,000-acre area for industrial development

Parish leaders are looking for a firm that will, through a "transparent, community-centered process," identify who needs to move and determine how much they should receive for their inconvenience.
This process, as outlined by the parish, includes three public informational meetings and door-to-door surveys. Residents could be asked how long they have lived in the area, if their family lived there before them, whether they own property or rent, if they have a title for the land and whether or not they actually want to relocate.
The parish has previously announced the development of a Hyundai steel mill, an ammonia plant and more industrial developments for an area north of Donaldsonville on the west bank of the Mississippi River known as the RiverPlex MegaPark.
The new industrial complex is expected to create thousands of jobs in the capital region.

I wish somebody would decide they wanted to plop some industrial shite on top of where my house is.
This will be the biggest windfall most of those people could ever dream of getting and they will still bitch up an unbelievable shitstorm of commotion over it.

Wrong. They will pay far over market value for this property and the owners will be able to buy 3 acres of un-fricked land elsewhere for what they'll get for 1 acre out of this deal.

That area is 99% farmland, and .5% shanties and .5% decent houses. Those people will improve their lot in life, as will the parish and area with billions of investment in jobs.

Eminent Domain has been all the way up through USSC and upheld. They don't stand a chance.
The absolute worst was the case in Baltimore(?) where they seized a bunch of private homes to let a private developer build condos on the land because the condos would pay more property tax. Government workers should have been run out of town for that one.
I posted in another thread a while back that "you never own land, you just lease it from the government..." and people downvoted me. This is yet another example. It is yours right up until you quit paying the government or they decide they need it more than you do. They will evict you at gunpoint if it comes to it.

Most will get a healthy 15-40% over market value, covered moving costs, relocation assistance, and a lot of other perks. They will be able to find nicer houses and larger pieces of land fairly close by if they want to.
IMO not a bad deal. And their hometown gets a shite load more jobs.

This will be like Katrina. Most of the people living in those areas are in family homes that do not have clear title of lines of succession. The only ones who are going to make money on this will be the Attorneys. There were a ton of people around New Orleans that thought they were going to get paid, but didn't own their property. That was one thing about Katrina, it cleared up a lot of titles so that the land could actually have something done to it.
My overall feeling is this is a good thing. There is no reason Donaldsonville could not expand like the East bank. This prevents the really large land holders from blocking these investments. Not completing 3127 or the supply airport are two things off the top of my head that were stopped because of this.

3127 needs to be extended as a turnpike to I-10, US190, and even up to the Audubon Bridge. That would be a huge deal for the state’s competitiveness especially if they can find a few more mega sites along the river btw New Orleans and Baton Rouge to develop.

It should have been completed to Gross tete long ago. The route is there. That is a bypass that has the majority of the infrastructure in place and access to 4 bridges and 3 interstates.

its the west bank of the river even though it is north of Donalsonville. The river doesn't run straight north to south, it meanders, if you look close it even flows north in a few spots, meaning the west bank will be on the east on a map, just look at a map of new orleans also.
