Used to be a decent way of staying in touch with industry bretheren but now they seem completely desperate (like so many companies who want to grow hocky stick instead of slow and steady) for views I am getting offers to link up with people I have no connection with.

I use it pretty frequently to promote and track geothermal projects in Europe. It’s the best source for the latest in that industry.

I had some financial management guy reach out to me about wanting to present me with all of the services his company offers. I told him I wasn't interested and he still messaged me once a week asking for a meeting.

I used to be an active member there, even got a full time job 10 years ago or so because of LinkedIn..

Then I started getting tired of these people you never met in your life wanting to add you on your contacts for potential business connections or contacts. The majority is full of bs. And it's kind of funny to read all these acronyms after people's names along with "high executive positions" that they hold. While some might be true to their accomplishments, I'm pretty sure most of them hold a degree in bs.

Its a cesspool of fake but I am sure there are a few decent accounts on there but it is nearly useless for it's original purpose.

It is quite literally just a self-jerk off fest now.

Just disgusting behavior tbh.

I enjoy watching people destroy their careers by posting strongly opinionated political bullshite and viewpoints.

Then occasionally some random Realtor or Recruiter that’s an OT 7 will post a selfie at a conference and I enjoy reading all the horn dogs and simps commenting.

It’s like they don’t realize that pretty much anyone they work with can see this.

It’s like a Nextdoor for men.

It is getting to be that way but If i needed a job I could have one in under 48 hours on there, I get calls and messages weekly from recruiters.

Oh…and everytime someone posts some random trendy phrase like

“Good managers don’t count how many hours you work in a week!” or “No need to ask for time off or vacation, good managers trust you”

IT IS NEVER A MANAGER OR EXECUTIVE. NEVER. It’s always some influencer or someone with a title resembling they don’t have a real job.

Cancelled my account a few months ago. Was consantly getting bombarded by sales people and "estimators".

If they actually read profile and checked my industry instead of just pumping sales crap, they could have saved themselves some time and realized there was not going to be a fit ofr thier products or services..

Two things made me turn away from Linked In

1) Political posts
2) The AI generated "how to be a great leader" posts by people who thinks it makes them an "influencer"

This is the only reason I keep it - strictly as an oh shite I need a job now tool.

My last boss was big on LinkedIn. I am not and have never been on it.

He got fired six months ago after fourteen months with the company for complete lack of performance. Total loser.

One of my direct reports showed me his LinkedIn at dinner a week ago. That A Hole has his time with our company written up like he was Genghis Kahn conquering Asia.

He lays claim to several projects that I ran long before he got there and that are still underway after his departure. I had some of my guys log in and make comments under his post and he immediately blocked them.

Makes me very suspect of anything you would read on there.

It is full of peons and lackeys masquerading as thought leaders, but most execs are on it and there is a lot of good content; like most things, you have to wade through a great deal of noise to get there.

Yeah…I used it for work and finding Sales contacts for years but now I just get spammed all the time with blind messages.

If these people spent as much time actually working as they did trying to scam people or have a bigger LinkedIn presence they’d be millionaires.

I don't use it for recruiting except to stalk applicants for crap like you posted.

Mostly, I just follow the companies I am interested in and oogle at the pictures of the cool stuff they are doing.

It's definitely become far less useful than it once was.

It's mostly recruiters now with sob stories of how hard their job is. They are the "professional" nurses and teachers now.

Whatever happened a few months ago makes me want to do away with it. It’s bombarding me with trash like everything else on social media now.
