The whole 870 sucked. Hoss is absolutely the worst. He screams and growls too much. I miss Jim H.

Hoss might be a good guy but he is a terrible broadcaster. I truly cannot stand to listen to him. When they interview him on wwl I turn it off too. He did not seem as bad on TV years ago.

Besides that and his raspy voice, he’s horrible at describing what is happening on the field. He has a bad habit of not saying how many yards were gained on a play and/or whether the play resulted in a first down. He’ll go an entire series without giving the score or how much time is left. On radio, this information should be repeated constantly.

He was decent as a TV reporter. Play by play is a different skill set. Just because someone is good at being a reporter or a host does not mean he’ll be good at play by play. See Eisen, Rich.

Great guy, horrible play by play announcer. We were spoiled with Jim and Archie, no one was going to replace them and be as beloved but damn Strief was bad and Hoss might be worse.
