79% of Pharma profits come from the USA vs only 4.2% of the worlds population.

Meanwhile, as we're paying their way and our own, the EU, UK, Australia and Canada yammer about how expensive America's healthcare system is.

Combination of factors here. Yes we are charged far more and subsidize most of the world's cheaper drugs.

We also have had an ridiculous culture of over-prescribing for decades now and doctors, psychiatrists, therapists, etc using medication for every little thing. So, we also just purchase a frick ton more than most of the rest of the world.

All things that should be addressed as it is not good.

That’s not exactly why pharma prices are high.

It’s due to the medicare modernization act passed in 2003 that stripped CMS’ ability to negotiate rx prices with manufacturers

Many different factors, none of which reflect well on our nation or our health care industry. At the core is Big Pharma's unethical and disgusting influence within our federal government and it's agencies responsible to govern the health care industry.
Hopefully, RFK is in the process of overhauling.
Also, the insurance industry is a huge part of the problem.

When you see the perfectly engineered symbiosis between the FDA, the food industry, the pharmaceutical industrial complex and the medical industrial complex, there's no going back. You can't unsee it.

All sponsored by the US taxpayer and executed by the federal government.

And with the fatties come a lot of drugs that pharma sells. Yes, we pay more for drugs. But we also buy a lot more drugs due to how poorly we take care of ourselves.

Which is part of the plan.

WE subsidize the healthcare r&d and pharmaceuticals for everyone else. They over do it by design. Other countries gotta eat.

Look it up.

It's a point source problem. We've been enslaved to pay exorbitant health insurance premiums to still become financially ruined when we fall off a ladder. We pocket the cost and risk for the other countries and their healthcare systems. It's why their "free" shite isn't free: that's where we come in, and it's also why people who think we could do what those leeching countries do are in every conceivable way, retarded.

While living in Guatemala a few years, my healthcare was 1st class. All dentist and doctors trained in the USA. Doctor offices clean and modern.

My medications were dirt cheap. My Starlink was only $50 a month.

The USA is the best place to live, if you can afford it.

Who on earth would think this is a good idea? Is it possible that big pharma might have coerced some key politicians to help them pad their bottom line?

I lived in a neighborhood in Jacksonville and had 3 pharmaceutical reps living on my 1 block long street - all working for different Pharmaceutical companies. They were constantly getting bonuses, prizes, and trips. Schering-Plough actually rented out the Louvre in Paris for three days for their pharma reps. They were making so much money that they had to waste it on their reps.

We subsidize the rest of the worlds cheap prescription drugs. The reason they can have price controls without shortages is because the costs are passed on to the Americans.

If Pharma does not make a profit, they have no money for R&D.

That said, we should demand that we pay the same price as the other developed nations. Pharmacy companies will then have to decide if they can be fully supported by socialized state medicine or if their prices and ours will meet in the middle.

In fairness, we consume a lot of needless pharma products.
