My dad's birthday is middle of this month and he's always wanted to attend a Tulane football game at Yulman. He turns 72 this year so I want to make these memories with him before it's too late. It would be him, my 5-year old, and myself. It would be the 11am game against Northwestern on 8/30. Any insight on sections in the stadium that wouldn't be too bad "sun wise"? I was looking at the end zone section 113, but anyone who has first hand experience would be a life saver.

It’s going to be really really miserable either way.

They have a couple night games already announced and others TBD.

Why not try to hit a night game or day game later in the season? Could get together and watch some games with him and cook at the house or watch at a bar.

I’ve never been to this stadium, but I can’t imagine there would be any sections safe from the sun at this time of day. It’s just brutal. Not sure what kind of shape your dad is in, but this could be potentially dangerous if he has any health issues. I won’t even start about your little one. He will likely be miserable and make you miserable for bringing him.
I could be wrong, maybe they are both tough SOBs. I’ve been to many early starts in Tiger Stadium. They’re just not any fun this early in the season. Find another game.

Pay up and get a glazer club ticket. Open bar and food plus shade and indoor/AC as needed.

Wait til November when it’s comfortable

Taking a senior to a Tulane football game outside in August is elder abuse

I went to the first game in Yulman Stadium, a day game against Georgia Tech. I bought four waters when I got there because I knew they were going to run out and they did. I'd swear it was the hottest day in earth's recorded history. Plenty of people were passing out and there weren't enough responders to get to them all. I spent most of the second half in the concession stand in the shade. I will never go to an early-season day-game in Yulman again.

Also, bet the farm on Tulane vs. Northwestern. No way the visitors will be prepared for the heat and humidity they will face.

I am not exaggerating.

If you have to go to that game then bring plenty of sunscreen. I've sat out in the sun during summers at baseball games and without shade and I've been to day LSU games at Tiger Stadium in September. I've found you can in some ways take the heat if you are not getting sunburned and get plenty of water and get some good wide hats--a baseball cap may not do it in that Sun. It also depends on the shape and health you all are in. Some folks at 30 will pass out and some folks in their 70s will be fine. Get in some shade during halftime.

101 to 111 would be your best bet. Go with letters around J-M.

You will be under the second level. 101 and 111 are close to the bathrooms and some concessions. My seats are in 103 and I have only had 1 bad experience with the seats and that was actually when it was cold and wind was coming off the visitors side and hitting us directly in the face.

I would not do any game in the afternoon if you pick those seats. It will be brutal.

Im in section 103 and I'm more towards the Glazer club so I am in the shade. I would never pick any section that isn't from 101-111 and any row below probably K.

I had a coworker go to the homecoming game last year and he was talking shite because he got tickets on the 45ish yardline but on the visitor side. While it wasn't necessarily hot (probably in the mid 80s) him and his wife was in direct sunlight. The both got extremely dehydrated (I'm sure it had nothing to do with the alcohol) and she almost had to go to the hospital.

Northwestern is going to be in for a long game.

To echo what many have said get a Glazer ticket. The 11am games out there are absolutely brutal. Night games and games when the temps drop are great.

I greatly appreciate all the responses so far. The 5-year old’s behavior is to be expected, my dad has a “it doesn’t matter” attitude but I certainly don’t want him to stroke out. Never heard of the Glazer option. Single game options are available? What’s the pricing for single game ticket/access and is this something I directly contact Tulane athletics about? I’ll follow up with him on this game as well as the one against Army on 10/18.

I believe any second hand tickets in sections 104-108 allow access.

Better weather and far better game

I'd like to offer my take on this.

I'm 72 and there's no way in hell I'm going to sit in the sun in a football stadium for 3+ hours to watch a football game--------------but maybe that's just me.

Then consider also having a 5 yr. old tagging along and likely getting bored and hot before too long and nobody is having fun.

Do this later in the fall when it's nice and comfortable.

I've been to one game in Yulman, it was in September 2014 the season it opened. Day game zero shade unless you had tickets in the Glazer Club.
It was hot but after sitting in the sun for the season opener at Baylor's new stadium a couple weeks earlier it felt pleasant.

Cajuns are playing Rice in Laffy in newly renovated stadium and kicking off at 7 PM on 8/30 if he wants to see some live football in August. Take him to a day game at Yulman later in the season.

Single game parking pass available to buy ahead of game for like $20 ( LINK) Gotta click the SGPK parking lot on the side of the NE gate to be able to add to cart.

Single game tickets as low as $25 and $35 ( LINK)

Depending on the game and how the team is playing, single game tickets outside of club levels can be really cheap on StubHub. But because the stadium is only 30,000 seats, if the team is good, then they can go for substantially more...
