Boucherie switching gears & going significantly more upscale high end tasting menu dining

Per Ian McNulty
They shut down for two months, they are reopening this week for Coolinary week with old Boucherie classics, then shutting down to finish up a renovation.
They are then reopening after September as a tasting menu restaurant.
5 course, $135 per person which puts it below Emeril's but in front of a lot of other places, but one night will be a la carte and they will serve a la carte at the bar and patio as well.
Everyone chasing that star

IDK, maybe once. Have paid more and do it for Omakase, but I typically enjoy that more than this type of chef’s tasting.

How many places like this do we now have in NO? I can think of at least 6. I like the concept, but it adds up fast if you start eating at these places.

My wife and I had Valentines dinner at Boucherie. Unbeknownst to me the usual menu was not available and it was tasting menu only. I enjoyed it and the food was good but dropped significantly more $$$ than I had expected going in.

Yowzaa.
That is going to be a lot to live up to. Have had some nice things there, nothing close to that price though.

I was thinking the same thing

are any of the tasting menu spots close to Emeril’s? Had my first experience there last June and have been craving a return trip.

Saint Germain to me is the standard. Emeril and his son both have referenced it several times.
They were one of the first doing it in the city and do an incredible job. Much more casual than Emeril’s (and significantly less expensive), so it’s not the same level of ultra high end service, but they still are absolutely awesome.
They will undoubtedly get a star.

I remember about 10 years ago when you couldn’t get a reservation there for months! I loved it and still think it’s a great place but Zimet certainly wasn’t pushing the culinary envelope of his time when his spot was hopping.
They did a solid small menu. They got too big when they moved into that new space next to Lebanon Cafe. Had to scale back and the light faded and moved to the next big thing

Well I always liked Boucherie but one of the appeals was it was very reasonably priced. I just don’t see myself ever going there to spend $300+.

I've eaten at quit a lot of 1 star places, and they are pound for pound as good or better than any of them. Now 2 stars are a completely different animal, and I've never had a 3 star.

Emeril's is trying to go the multi star route

You will still be able to eat a la carte there at the bar or the patio all the time, and inside on Wednesdays. So can still eat relatively cheap there.
I took 8 out of town friends to Boucherie in April. I'd not been there in a while but the food was great and the wine selection was quite good. I recall really liking the scallops. They had staffing issues that night so the dinner was long but we had a great time.
Went to St. Germaine for the first time 2 weeks ago. I went now to make sure I tried it before they got a star and became even more expensive and popular. Hands down best dining experience and food I've had in New Orleans. I've been to a 3 star and a few 2 stars. St. Germain will definitely get a star on food alone. I am still thinking about that cheese souffle. We did the wine pairing though we split it because my wife doesn't drink much. They were very accommodating about that. They even served us a red from the year 2000. I've never seen a restaurant pour a 25 year old, non-dessert wine as part of a wine pairing. Just incredible. Only problem is, now my wife wants to go back. $$$

Think it was $175 per person, and $90 for the wine pairing.
