From AP News
quote:

A driver going 283 mph trying to set a land speed record during a racing event at Utah’s famed Bonneville Salt Flats died Sunday after he lost control of his rocket-like vehicle called the Speed Demon, organizers said. Driver Chris Raschke lost control about two and a half miles into a run and was treated by medical professionals at the scene, but died from his injuries, according to the Southern California Timing Association, which has organized the popular land-speed racing event known as “Speed Week” since the late 1940s

ETA: apparently this car was still rapidly accelerating when the crash happened. Mr Raschke had previously recorded a speed of 470 mph at the previous event in 2020

I think you have to be comfortable with the idea of possible death to even do what they do.

Yeah. I'm good at fricking. Would suck for my wife but hoping to cum and go at the same time. Just not anytime, soon.

Ashley Force ran a 3 second 1000 foot run earlier this year at 343 MPH in her Top Fuel Dragster at an NHRA event.

How do you lose control going in a straight line? No sympathy here

I'm not an aerodynamicist, but I don't see a lot of downforce on that car.

I ask the same question every time there’s a wreck on the interstate
