A six-year-old boy was left covered in bruises after an enormous octopus grabbed his arm and wouldn't let go.

Britney Taryn, the boy’s mother, spoke about the incident, which occurred during a July 14 visit to the San Antonio Aquarium, Texas, in a TikTok video.

“My son is very level-headed when it comes to animals, so when he had his arm in there, and he starts saying, ‘Mom, it’s not letting me go - and way too calmly - I’m like, ‘Oh, okay,’” Britney said. “So I’m helping him get down from the step and trying to pull him away from the octopus, and that octopus is not letting go.”

Sometimes I run

Sometimes I hide

Sometimes I’m scared of you

But all I wanna do is hold you tight

Cephalopods are rad. Thank God they have such short lives and not much interaction with their offspring, otherwise we might have some competition.

A spokesperson for the aquarium told PEOPLE: “The safety and well-being of our guests, staff, and animals are our top priorities.” They emphasised that the octopus exhibit is not a touch tank but a “1,000+ gallon habitat intentionally designed with a tall barrier to provide safety for both guests and the animal”. "Reaching the octopus requires a person to lean fully over the wall of the enclosure and reach approximately 24 inches down from the top edge," the representative added. "In this instance, the guest leaned her child over the exhibit barrier, allowing him to reach into the habitat without staff supervision."

Somebody is lying and it’s probably not the aquarium personnel. Seems that a designated touch tank would be easily verifiable.

Very. Masters of camouflage:

And most people don’t realize that as long as their beak can fit through a hole, the rest of them can go through. It’s weird to think about that being possible. But I remember this video of an octopus escaping a ship through an impossibly small hole:

There's a good chance that they're aliens.

If the boy is in front of his mom, why did she let her son put his arm in the aquarium? This is on the mom.

i saw a video several years ago, where they were studying the intelligence level of an octopus by putting it in several scenarios and recording its reactions...they placed it inside a glass jar and put the lid on...the octopus figured it out and unscrewed the lid from the inside to get out

They are, in a sense. The genes from which they originated were introduced to this planet independently of the ones that spawned humans and most everything else.

Still hundreds of millions of years ago, though.

Yes I’ve seen that one too. It’s pretty incredible how intelligent they are.

As much octopus that humans eat around the globe (delicious at Vic's on the River in Savannah) it's only fair they get to take a few of us every once in a while.

Also, sounds like a sticky situation.
