Thune is seeking to break the nominees logjam with Trump and Senate Democrats, who are considering conditioning their support for speeding up confirmation of some nominees with agreement from the White House to unfreeze some federal funding for specific government programs.
Asked how his talks with the White House are going, Thune described them in a brief interview as a “work in progress.”
They are holding the nominees hostage because they want to SPEND more. Who saw that coming?

I really hope Trump plays hardball and shuts some agencies down, then announces no back pay. Let the GOPe senators squirm. I fuking hate the senate. I have no doubt they stole seats in Michigan and Wisconsin and Las Vegas. And the dude who beat Lake is complete scum.

It’s all bogus “senate rules”. Like they can take up to 3 hours per each one with delay tactics. So even if the GOP pushes it, they can only get 2-3 a day, and of course they will only do 2 a day. Why they aren’t moving forward? It really boils down to the GOP leadership doesn’t have the will to push Trumps agenda, so he hides behind “rules” at every turn. I’m sure he presented to Trump that the Dems want more spending, but the truth is, Thune wants more spending.

How about frick the filth and just do recess appointments, Mr. Thune?

Thune was groomed by McConnell as a prodigy.
He is now fulfilling the role that McConnell still drives ….. Withholding key support until the requisite indulgences are paid.

This is THE WAY

quote:exactly this. If a majority in congress wanted to cut spending we wouldn't be $37 trillion in debt. Newt was the last member of congress with the will to actually do anything about it and everyone saw the results

Thune will gavel in every so many days so Trump can't do recess appointments.

I hope MAGA supporters put serious $$$ behind whomever runs against this jackass next time

Because of the Harry Reid method of going into Senate recess. They don't actually recess. Harry Reid would have one Senator come in each day and gavel in the Senate, then immediately gavel it out. That way, he never officially went into recess. And Bush couldn't make recess appointments. The DA republicans are carrying on Reid's method of recess. Even though the Republicans control the White House. It's just another trick they use to block Trump.

What do democrats have to do with any of this? Republicans have a clear majority in the senate, not just a 1-seater. Get your own fricking party in order and who gives a shite about what democrats want when it comes to confirmations?
It's completely asinine that the REPUBLICAN MAJORITY will not give the REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT the cabinet and executive branch appointments that he wants. The senate doesn't have to like it, but the people voted for this with a relatively clear mandate. It wasn't close.
