Is Roblox bad for my kid?

I’ve read where people say that Roblox is a heaven for pedos and weirdos lurking in the game to harass young kids.
Over the summer, I’ve watched my kids play this game and didn’t see where it was perverted or anything like that. Maybe I’m missing something, but wanted some input from you guys.

How old are your kids? Have you enabled the parental controls? Note, to do that you have to create your own account and then link to your child's account.

under 10
I'll have to check on the parental controls.

My son loves playing it on the PS5, but from what I see, it's just a bunch of simple user created games, very sandbox like, lots of them with Sonic skins, for example.
I think on the surface, it's fine, but the big issue that arises with Roblox is when social interactions come into play. On PS5, it's a lot harder for someone to start talking to my son, and I have a PS app that will show me if anyone messages him. But if you have kids on laptops, where text or voice chat is a LOT easier, and you're not watching what they're doing, that's where the problems arise.
I saw a video where a grown man showed up at this single mom's house because he had play roblox with her son, and the boy wanted this guy to meet his mom. As awkward and as "what the hell are you doing man" as that is, that's pretty mild compared to what a predator could convince your kid to do.
So like with most stuff, the content itself isn't harmful per se, it's the opportunities it opens up.
ETA I'm sure there is content on their that isn't super kid friendly, but that hasn't been the big problem with this game.

Depends if they're using a mic or not.
Play Shark Bite 2 with them, easily the most fun I've had in a game in a very long time.

No mics for my kids..they play on Xbox or ipad, but i never hear them talking to other players...

So yeah, I'd say just check in occasionally to see what they're playing. There is so much content they can access.

Our son plays Roblox with his buddies. We had multiple conversations with him about online predators, but I still check up on who he's talking to on occasion.

You have to monitor it. Like any online game, the chats can be suspect. Also there can be inappropriate games on there. Just keep watching what they are playing and who they are talking to. Don't allow any friends you don't know personally

My son plays it but I have it set where no one can communicate or chat with him.

Stranger danger should always be a thing, OP.
Talk to your kids about the dangers of online play. You can't be there for them all the time.

I have...I was asking if there was something I was missing with some people talking about this game like it was full of sexual predators.
From what I have watched them play, I didn't see anything alarming besides the brain rot crap but I was more asking because I don't see what all the negative talk about it is....as far as the kid games they play.
I guess there's more dark and demented games on Roblox but they are not involved in those.

No way. All of my kids play. They stay on this shite for hours and I can do whatever I want. Its quiet. I can watch movies, play my own video games, or just doom scroll hot chicks tic-toks.

Im pretty free reign with my kids, but my 9 year old was playing on her ipad one night and said "hey dad check this out, its a game called Club Miami".
It was just a bunch of avatars standing around dancing, VR chat room style. Im sure all of the "girls" were basement dwellers. Had to play bad cop and pull the plug after that.

My kids play it. I have chat and messaging disabled on both their devices because of potential weirdos.

What are their ages? Would you drop your young kid off to a real-life playground with no age restrictions and feel comfortable leaving them there?
I ultimately decided against it with my own kids even with ability to turn off chat. It's a sandbox game. There are no rails in terms of content. A player can write a message on an item label and communicate that way. I did not feel like policing/watching every aspect of it, so I was not comfortable with it. Other parents with young kids may stay on top of it like a hawk and feel more comfortable allowing them to play.
To me, this is preparation for setting and sticking to boundaries with technology coming down the pipe (smart phones, etc.) as they get older. There is already pressure to allow them to play because their friends play.
I had an experience like Polar Pop when I set up a parental account, and then an account for a kid and played a few times a week to see what a kid would experience. Maybe do that, and if you feel comfortable with the interactions and servers you test out, go for it.

There was a youtuber who was doing his on Chris Hanson thing and getting Pedos arrested on ROBLOX, so he claims. He also claims that the developer banned him from the game for doing this.
If true, I don't think I would trust that game dev to protect my kids any more than I trust activation's ricochet to cut ban cheaters.

Chris Hanson is making a documentary investigating roblox. They are about to get sat down.

I still have no idea what Roblox even is... it sounds like it's a base platform where a bunch of people create their own mini games, and they're all nothing but micro-transaction hell.
My nephew asked for Robux or whatever their in-game currency is. Based on all the videos about it the past few days, I'm glad I didn't. I was debating whether or not i should tell my sister about this stuff, but i also know she'd overreact and just take away the game completely.
