This really isn't my most underrated movie, but Mr Brooks is a fantastic movie filmed in Shreveport. The ending makes it even better. It has Kevin Costner, Demi Moore, Dane Cook (only piece I like with Dane Cook), William Hunt plays a brilliant role in it. That and Shawshank Redemption apparently was a bust at the box office, and it's now, according to IMDB ratings, the #1 movie that has ever been made in history.

I'd like some good ideas for movies, and I've watched pretty much all that I can find on Prime with an above 7.0 IMDB rating. I'd love a Mystic River type movie. Thanks ahead.

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Im not a huge Wes Anderson fan but this one is great to me. Bill Murray and Goldbloom are perfect. Love the whole thing.

The Rocketeer. We’ve been saturated with superhero movies and I don’t think that people realize that Joe Johnston gave us a near perfect one in the early 90’s post-Batman burst of comic character films.

I mean, I've e got a ton of suggestions for movies I consider underrated. I'm not sure if they're in the same vein as Mystic River (haven't seen that one), but I definitely think these deserve way more recognition than they get. The board will probably disagree but most of these are films that the average John Q. Public viewer, not hardcore film buffs, has either never heard of or never actually seen.

Signs
Heist (2015 movie with De Niro)
Absentia (2011 - Mike Flanagan's first movie)
Batman vs Superman Ultimate Edition (director's cut, far superior to the garbage that was released in theaters)
The Grey
The Endless
Ex Machina
The Prestige
1408
The Descent
The Others
Law Abiding Ctizen
Deep Impact
Layer Cake
Shutter Island
Oculus
Resolution

In terms of normie movies that are somewhat well known, I'm going to go with Grosse Pointe Blank. I know people like this movie but it's one of my favorite movies of all time. It's just got a perfect blend of lots of genres, good acting, and a great soundtrack. Even within the near-silly plot and structure, the two main characters are real/flawed people, which I think is what resonates with me so much.

Another option is the Wailing. I know lots of people love this movie, but for being maybe the best horror movie of the past 15 years, that number is low. Either this movie or Hereditary should be 1/2 on ever horror list of the 2010s. Just to complete the top 3 of that list, Kill List must be included. I don't care what order you make the 3, but those are the 3 best.

Special list for documentaries:

Darkon
Knuckle
The Institute (2012)
The Ambassador (2011)
Cleanflix

I've started a list to make a thread on super underrated/unseen movies. A few from that list.

Found

Wake in Fright

Coupe de Ville got lost in the shuffle, but it is a solid road trip/family comeuppance movie.

Also:

White Squall
Brotherhood of the Wolf
Tao of Steve
