Nussmeier Could Break The Career Passing Record, That’s Been Held Since 1989!

Nuss has a chance to break Hodson’s Career Passing Record, of 9,115 yards. Right now Nuss sits at 5,772 yards. Last season he passed for 4,052. Hitting that same mark this season, he would pass Hodson. Overall, I’d say he has a better receiving unit. He returns his leading WR from last season, Aaron Anderson.
He’s also tied for 5th with Herb Tyler, with 40 career TD’s passes. Behind J. Russell (52), Jayden Daniels (57), Hodson (69) and Joe B with 76.
This is Chris Hilton’s money year, he stays healthy, his speed along with Aaron Anderson, those two could spread the field. The return of Trey’Dez Green, add in TE Bauer Sharp, he lead all receivers last season at Ok, not just TE’s. They also brought in another TE, Donavon Green, out of High School, he was rated higher than Mason Taylor.

Pretty wild that 3 of the 4 top statistical QBs in LSU History could have all seen the field in a 4 year span from 2019 to 2022. With none of them starting more than 2 years at LSU. Not to mention if Nuss pulls the Heisman this year.

As much as I would love to see Nuss completely light it up, I hope our defense is good enough that we can run the ball in the ball in the 4th and let backup QB's get PT. That 2019 defense was bad the first 2/3 of the season, Burrow had to win a lot of shootouts. 2023 defense was terrible the entire year, Daniels has to perform constantly.

Would prefer to see him win every game, breaking records don't mean much.

Between him and Burrow, it is wild to truly vision how putrid our QB play was overall between for the previous ten years.

Really the only one that he'll pass that'll truly be impressive is Burrow.
And that's not a knock on anyone.

What? Outside of week 2 on the road to open at Texas. Point to the game we need the offense to win in a shootout fashion?
Week 1 55-3 win
Week 3 65-14 win
Week 4 66-38 win
Week 5 42-6 win
Week 6 42-24 win
Week 7 36-13 win
Week 8 23-20 win and reason being the Defense shut Auburn down and held them to lowest yardage of year.
If this is your definition of bad defense and the 2025 defense plays like this we riding with Nuss.

Hodson had 4 years starting to reach that. Burrow still the best LSU QB. I’d rather make the playoffs and win a natty more than see him get the record. It would be neat though. I don’t think you see another 4 year starter at LSU or a power school in one of the bigger conferences.

I think a final score of 66-38 qualifies as a shootout. But I agree our 2019 defense was not close to bad. Timely playmaking goes a long way. Stingley against Auburn is a top 5 game of all time for an LSU defensive back.

The amount of years is less relevant than the pass attempts are. You’re playing 3-4 more games now plus they didn’t count bowl stats back then. Teams throw more in one half now than they did in a lot of games back then. Hodson is fewer than 400 attempts ahead of Nuss right now so by the time the seasons over Nuss will have more attempts than Hodson.
