Home security systems. Where do I even start?

I've had ADT for 5 years and the equipment has been terrible. I didn't think the guy who came to my house effectively sold me on the equipment.

I've started to explore other systems (Google, Ring, etc.), but I don't know a thing about hardwiring a system, much less wiring one. I'm not really in a DIY situation.

Sams seemed to have some systems but who do I even get to install this stuff?

Thanks. This just seems beyond my scope.

Brother, the experience of cancelling ADT is going to be orders of magnitude more difficult than finding a replacement system

You start on the Home and Garden board.

It was a legit 15 min conversation with ADT to cancel.

You actually did extremely well. As an attorney, I knew to just repeat “I appreciate it, but no thank you, I would still like to cancel” and “no, there’s nothing in particular I don’t like about the system; I would like to cancel”. And it took a solid 15m of that before I managed to get off the phone. I will never, ever give those lunatics another dollar for as long as a live

I need to get one. The one I have is old as shite and the wife hates it. Every time the power goes out the panels beep until you hit the off button. Not to mention it’s not monitored currently.

I’ve been upgrading all my lighting light switches and thermostats, to smart switches so it’s all voice activated, just need to figure out my alarm panels and get a service.

Look for a more local option.
We have Acadian Total Security in Lafayette area and they sell the alarm and camera system, fire alarms, CO2 sensors and it’s all integrated.
Very happy with their service.

Get some blink camera's operates off wi-fi, no hard wiring required.
Just mount them in good locations. Have (4) on the exterior of my house gives full perimeter surveillance. Installed cameras and set it up myself.

Ties to your phone and you get notifications when camera is activated, individual video recording for each camera, voice options so you can talk to someone if they are on camera.

Unless your system is wireless, you have wired contacts already. The “system” doesn’t care if the contacts are ADT or not.

My advice is go here and swap your system out yourself. AlarmGrid

The monitoring is like 10 bucks a month. If you go to a local alarm company, they use the same kind of service, which they buy and selll to you for 30 dollars a month.

Purchase a system that you own and get alarm grid to monitor it. You’ll be very happy.

I do have 8 blink cameras now. I just need updated alarm panels that will mesh with my Google home app. Right now I can control all my main lights inside and out, speakers, TV’s, and thermostats on one app.

Dogs is the answer. A few good dogs are priceless.

Whatever modern security system you have it won't do a damn thing other than give you video of your stuff being stolen, ect.

Depends on how technical you are. You can put together a damn good security system by yourself.

I have my own, all doors monitored (could add Windows if I wanted to, but I don't see it as necessary right now), camera alerting and 24/7 recording, with police call monitoring.

It's a decently expensive up front cost, but only $10/month for the police monitoring
