I worked with a girl, a collegiate basketball player and attorney, who was adamant that Magic never had HIV. That he agreed to claim it to destigmatize, raise money/awareness and all that. She would not accept even the possibility of it being real.

I never thought he was faking it.
However, I also never bought into the idea that he contracted it thru heterosexual sex. The chances of that happening were minuscule during the full-blown AIDS epidemic of the 80s.
